Grade Six

Greetings Parents, Teachers and Students,

This year the Grade Six students have smashed through the curriculum and are extending themselves in many ways. I speak on the behalf of all students when I say that we have improved to levels that seemed unimaginable just six months ago!

The Grade Six students are off the scale in levels of English. We have practiced and learnt how to write Information Reports that exceed the teacher’s expectations. Each student has been able to pump out an exemplary report. All Grade Six kids have been choosing good fit books and have been taking part of in the Premier's Reading Challenge. Students have been flying in terms of seed writing, as they have better ideas and deeper understanding of what they will write about. We have also improved substantially in reading comprehension as we know exactly what we are reading and choosing books that are right for us.

In Maths, the Grade Six students have been doing an exceptional job. One of the many highlights was the Ice-cream inventor challenge. We were required to create a unique ice-cream flavour and push our Math skills to our limits by collecting data, making graphs, working with various amounts of money and doing a large amount of work with fractions, decimals and percentages. We have improved greatly during this semester as we were able to face open ended questions and challenges with enthusiasm!

During Integrated studies, we have pierced through the heavens with our success! At the start of this term, we would struggle to list even a few countries but now we have improved so much! We have learned so much about different cultures and their traditions. We have learnt things that wouldn't be imaginable such as uncontacted tribes and indigenous people in different parts of the world. We've even had an introduction to historic events such as WW2 while reading our class novel, Once.

A few weeks ago, the Grade Six students had to undergo remote learning due to covid-19. We abided by green and happy thoughts to help us through this time. Thinking about this, it wasn’t that bad compared to last year, as we only had to go through the subjects known as - Math, English, Integrated and Wellbeing.

This year the Grade Sixes had the privilege of playing Inter-school sports. We had the option of choosing from the teams such as- Soccer, Tee-ball, Kickball, Netball and Football. We played against other schools and displayed great sportsmanship. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the last 4 matches had to go on hold, But with the games we did play we all showed the best of our abilities.

The Grade six students have displayed an exceptional start and end to this term. We were consistent with good behaviour and we will continue this in the time to come. We are sure we will come back in Term Three with a bang!
