Year 12

Year 12 Inspire Day

On Monday 12 July my fellow Year 12 students and I were able to ease back into schooling with an activity day called ‘Inspire Day’. The day was aimed to enhance our learning habits, social and emotional skills and strengthen our understanding of tertiary life. To start the day, all the Year 12 students broke up into small groups for a fun amazing race, where we were able to challenge ourselves with riddles and puzzles.

We then heard from the amazing Tammy Van Wisse, an inspirational marathon swimmer. Tammy spoke to the us about the importance of goal setting, overcoming setbacks and demonstrating resilience. Although none of us had swum great distances for many hours, we were able to relate to her presentation. She continuously linked her setbacks and triumphs to our Year 12 experience and what lies ahead. I know I was able to learn that through hard work and determination I can overcome this great challenge that is Year 12 along with my fellow classmates. After Tammy’s inspirational words we went through several specialised workshops with various teachers who presented on skills such as managing stress, note-taking, preparing a study timetable and retrieval practice.

We were then able to talk one-on-one with a teacher about tertiary life and possible endeavors. This enabled me to see what ATAR and what track I needed to be on to complete my desired course in university. We were also fortunate to be able to speak with past pupils about university life.

Lastly, we revised our English skills necessary for the rest of the semester and exams before finishing the day with a Liturgy. I learnt so much from the ‘Inspire Day’ and I want to say a huge thank you on behalf of the Year 12 cohort to all the teachers involved in organising the day. We are truly grateful.
