NAIDOC Week Celebrations

In recognition of NAIDOC Week (which occurred during the holidays) our Living Justice team of staff and students ran a number of activities designed to engage our wider student community and create awareness about NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Committee).

The theme for this year was ‘Heal Country’. Healing Country means embracing First Nation’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage. That the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders are respected equally to the cultures and values of all Australians.

Activities included traditional weaving, used for rope making and baskets, and friendship bands. ‘Rabbit Proof Fence’ was a popular choice of movie and was enjoyed by many whilst they relaxed in the warmth and engaged in colouring in traditional artwork.
