Wellbeing and Engagement

Welcome to Term 3. I hope that this newsletter finds you and your families well, keeping healthy and safe. Who would have thought that we would be starting Term 3 just like this after we had such a glorious joyful end to Term 2 with our Celebration Assembly, the ‘Write a Book in a Day’ challenge and our ‘Maths Olympiad’ competition?

I would like to extend a very sincere and warm welcome to all new families who have joined our community this term. I hope that your daughters are settling into class and to the various groups, to which they belong here at the College now and for many years to come. I look forward to getting to meet you and getting to know you in person soon.

I hope that remote learning has started well within your homes.  I pay my utmost respect to all families who are navigating, having children learning from home, older children studying from home and young adults undertaking tertiary study at home. I pray that things go as smoothly as they can and that your days are filled with moments of joy.

Pastoral Program

This term, the College is continuing to focus on embedding the principles of Positive Psychology in our Pastoral program and focus on building our students’ understanding of Martin Seligman’s ‘PERMA’ framework.  Here is an overview of the program at each Year Level and the resources that have been prepared to support its delivery. I encourage all parents to have conversations with your daughters about some of the key skills/learnings contained in these resources.

Year 7 – Values in Action Project

This term, our Year 7 students will be required to complete a passion project on one of our College values. As part of the launch of this project, they are required to work through the following workbook that has been prepared and explore each of our College values in terms of their Semester 1 learning experiences.

Year 8 – Brave not Perfect Camp Preparation

The focus of the Pastoral Program this term at Year 8 will be on preparing for camp and exploring the key skills and understandings that camp hopes to strengthen. The theme of the camp is ‘Brave not Perfect’ and in the lead up to camp and during camp, there is a focus on enhancing resilience, adopting a growth mindset, working collaboratively as a valued member of a team and personal goal setting. Students are currently completing a series of journaling exercises that are designed to explore these key skills.

Year 9 and 10 – Life Beyond Kilbreda

Engaging in research regarding future pathway options is a key focus at Year 9 and Year 10. This coincides with the subject selection process. A range of resources have been prepared to assist students with this process in addition to a series of presentations that have been delivered to students and families. The following resources can be used to start conversation with your daughter regarding future pathway options.

Year 11 – My Future Career

Year 11 students have participated in a presentation that provided tips to consider when selecting their Year 12 subjects for 2022. Students were then encouraged to use the VTAC Course Search tool to explore future careers and the universities that offer them, including the prerequisite studies.

Year 12 – Inspire Day Follow-Up

Our Year 12 program is designed to build on the skills introduced last week at the ‘Inspire Day’.  Students have been practising using the retrieval process to consolidate their understanding of concepts studied. They have been provided with a study plan and are encouraged to establish mini goals that they hope to achieve each week. Resources to assist them in managing procrastination have been distributed and study groups have been established to assist them gain mastery of key skills in their English studies.

Parent Webinars

Several community agencies are facilitating a range of Parent Webinars to support families during this period of remote learning and to assist them in managing the challenges associated with living with adolescents.  Here are some links to upcoming parent seminars:
