Principal's Report

Lockdown No. 5 and return to remote learning

Lockdown is never easy for any of us least of all our students who really just want to be at school learning and playing with their friends. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am so proud of our school community - students, parents and staff. It's obvious that as a community many of us are flat and remote learning is becoming increasingly difficult to get all students to engage with.

Whilst the teaching and learning program is important, the mental health of our children and of our parents is even more so.  We know the learning can and will be made up. It's the social and emotional wellbeing of our children that is really what is now taking its toll. Students joining their daily meets is a great way to stay connected with their teacher and classmates and it's been wonderful to see most students attending the meets daily.

If you're now getting into battle territory with your child/ren please use your judgement and what you know about your child/ren and focus on what they need at this time. Continue to talk to your child's class teacher. Perhaps some time out is what's needed  -ride a bike, play a board game, bake a cake, write up a shopping list, go for a walk or partake in other forms of physical exercise. Please do whatever works for you and your family.

At this stage it is expected all students will return to school next week on Wednesday 28 July. I have my fingers and toes crossed, just as I'm sure you do.

We will be holding an online assembly next Tuesday 3.00pm. Please join us by following the link.

Canteen next week - Wonderful Wednesday and Fabulous Friday

It's only a small gesture but for next week only we will open the canteen for over the counter sales on Wednesday and on Friday. Send your child along with some coins should you wish.

When feeling flat, it's easy to focus on the negatives and things that aren't working well. I know I'm revisiting my gratitude practices during this time.

This week I am grateful for:

Jimmy Harris' ongoing support and for setting up our online Assembly

Gavin Andrews for helping me sort a lighting issue in the theatre

The respectful manner in which our parents and carers communicate with the school during difficult times as well as the feedback we receive along the way

Our teachers who are working so hard with both remote and onsite learning

Our students attending onsite learning and the way they have worked

Our students working to the best of their ability remotely

Our office staff and aides who are here daily.

Wishing you all a safe weekend. We're nearly there... I think
