Principal's Report

Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2021

From Mrs Barr's Desk

Summit Camp, Trafalgar

Is that a stretch goal or a super stretch goal? Don’t leave the camp with any regrets that you didn’t give everything a go. These are some of the mottos of the Summit. And yes, we were challenged with many exciting tasks and activities; be it the abseiling, rock climbing, high wire, the Summit window, crawling into a dark cave or the giant swing plummet. The camp builds on teamwork, personal goals and perseverance.

Our grade 6 students and staff on camp were asked to step out of their comfort zone and work through feeling uncomfortable. Can I….? Finishing something that you had to push yourself through and then that feeling of success when you are standing at the end, knowing that you did it- all great life skills.  I had spoken to our students from foundation to grade 5 at the assembly on Monday about perseverance in learning and it was evident at the Summit.

Thank you to all the staff who attended the week-long camp – Mitch Clark, Lisa O’Connor, Meg Hubbard, Megan Campbell, Kate Wallis, April Warfield, Romy Magdis, Michael Sacchetta, Marika Ferguson and Fin Brown (and I attended Wednesday to Friday morning). It was an amazing experience that the students will remember in the years to come.

Thank you Rangeview Teachers for making this camp possible
How magnificent is this scenery!
Working together
Wet and muddy but wow had a great time
We made it!
Mr Saccheta enjoyed the experience.
That was fun.

Remote Learning

It is all too familiar position to be in again– remote learning. We have plans if this is extended and thank you to our families and staff to support students’ learning during these difficult times. So be kind to yourself, be safe and just do the best you can do.

Term 2 Student Led Conferences

Term 2 finished with the student led conferences for the mid year reports. Many families took the opportunity to visit their child's classroom for the interview and see the learning portfolio. It is powerful when a child can articulate their achievements and where they will be working next.

Term 3 Events

It is a busy term and we will need to be flexible. A number of events had to be cancelled this week, however there are many more anticipated activities including our 5/6 production, billycart day, the school review, grade 3 and grade 4 camps, incursions and excursions, Book Week parade and the book fair and so much learning to fill the days in between.

Community Feedback- Planning for Our Future

We are seeking feedback for the master plan concept. Our School Council will use the community feedback of our future plan to canvas our local State MP, Dustin Halse and the Victorian Government for funding for a half school rebuild. We will send you the QR code link to a survey very soon so watch this space. There will be a tab on our website- Planning for Our Future with information and the survey link.

Pupil Free Day Postponed

In response to the lockdown and in consideration to the students and families, we will need to move the Pupil Free Day  from Monday 26 July to Friday 20 August. I believe that the potential extension of the lockdown will be disruptive enough without a pupil free day so soon after their return. The leadership have chosen the new date and OSHClub has been informed. An email has been sent to all families about the change in date.
