Southern Metropolitan Cross Country

On Monday June 18th Beaumaris SC had 11 students compete at the Southern Metropolitan Cross Country Championships at Ballan Park in Frankston. Our students did a wonderful job representing their school in very cold conditions and against quality fields with about 100 runners in lining up at the start in both the boys' and girls' events. Baden Mooney and Alice Tedstone both finished in the top 15 in their divisions and narrowly missed going through to the State titles. Our girls finished 3rd and boys finished 4th in the Team event which were very commendable efforts. Congratulations to the team : Alice Tedstone, Aimee Farrow, Margot Worthy, Meg Lambert, Baden Mooney, Aiden McCarthy, Seb Jakobi, Darcy Richards, Ned Bodi, Marlon Rayson- Harwood, Lukas Jane.

Term Two Beachside Round Robin

Boys AFL

On Thursday 14th of June, Beaumaris SC took part in the Beachside boy’s footy round robin, held at Highett Reserve. The round robin consisted of 4 games with one bye.

Our first game was against Glen Eira SC which we comfortably won by 42 points (43-1). Our second game was against Elwood College, which we won quite easily by 20 points. Our third game was against Albert Park which was the toughest game we played. We were up by a few goals at half time but somehow we let Albert Park sneak a few quick goals to level the scores with 3 minutes to go. They then kicked two barrels that ended up bouncing in so they won by two goals. Our last game was against Cheltenham which we ended up winning by about 10 points. We then finished the day with a bye in the last round.

Overall we ended up winning 3 of our 4 games. We played well as a team and ended up coming home in second place. Well done, we are ready to finish on top next year!

Handball

On Thursday, the 14th of June Beaumaris Secondary’s sport teams went out to play a sport round robin. The sports were football, European handball, soccer, netball and badminton. The European handball team went very well, there was one team of all boys and one team with 5 boys and 2 girls. The boy’s team won all their games and the mixed team won 2 and lost 2.  So the end result was the boys team came first and the mixed team came third out of 5 teams. We all put our best efforts in and we were all very happy with the end results.

The Year 7 Handball teams recently competed in the Beachside Division Handball Competition. Due to much enthusiasm from the students, we were able to enter two teams, Team Beaumaris ‘Blue’ and Team Beaumaris ‘Grey’. I can confidently say that the wonderful students I took out for Handball not only represented themselves but also the school with integrity, pride and passion.

It was highly rewarding to witness each of the team members further develop their Handball skills across the competition day and have both our teams finish 1st and 3rd respectively. I have no doubt in my mind that everyone would have been very proud of their contribution to our team. Each student showed their commitment, resilience, dedication and team spirit. I was incredibly proud to be their coach and it was an absolute pleasure to work with each of them.

I would like to congratulate the following students on being in the first Year 7 Beaumaris Secondary College Handball Team: Edward Steere, Max Mikolajunas, Lara Barker (Grey – Vice Captain), Marley Taylor, Callum Leffler, Kai Snell, Darcy Richards (Blue – Captain), Jordie Davies (Grey – Captain), Lars Behrendorff, Declan Johns (Blue – Vice Captain), Jamaal Zecevic, Nathan Boyer, Owen Bradley, Jack Ennever and Bjorn Steguweit. I would also like to make a special mention and thank Jack Ennever and Bjorn Steguweit who supported me on the day in various roles; it’s fair to say that the day would have not have run as smoothly as it did, if it wasn’t for these two boys!

Girls' Soccer

Last Thursday, the 14th of June, we were lucky to be able to attend a girls’ soccer round robin, along with the boy’s team.

We had an amazing day. The positive energy was just fantastic and we had so much fun. Our first game was against Glen Eira, both teams gave a great fight however we came out on top, winning 4-0. Although most of the girls had never played before we saw some amazing goal keeping, spacing out, looking up and pacing and shots on goal.

For our second game, we played one of the harder teams; Albert Park. Unfortunately, we were not as lucky as the first game, losing 0-2. However, the other teams lost 5-0 and 6-0 to them, so we were really happy with how we played. In this game every girl had their head up, not caring about the score and they never gave up.

In the third and final game we played Cheltenham and since it would be our last game we went in with nothing on the line and just focused on having fun. This we did and as a bonus we came out with a 3-0 win. This game, all the girls worked together by backing each other up, by passing the ball around, and by just saying something as simple as good job.

In conclusion, everyone had a wonder full day, we supported each other through all the ups downs and no one ever gave up!

Boy's Soccer

On Thursday 14 June, a group of year 7 boys and girls went to interschool soccer, all of us had a great time, the boys just missed out on the final. It was a lot of fun and it was definitely worth going, we worked really well as a team and cooperatively. I thought we deserved to go to the next round.

Netball

On the 14th of June 2018, two teams of 8 girls travelled to Dandenong Netball Stadium to play netball. We arrived at 9.15am and after an intense warm up we started to play at 10am.

Both teams began the day exceptionally well and won the first 3 games against Cheltenham…

Following our lunch break, both teams played Mentone Girls SC and despite the loss, both teams did not give up. Glen Eira came next in the pool and Team 1 smashed them while Team 2 lost by only three goals.

The final game was played against Albert Park College. The first and second quarter was close but when the third quarter started, Albert Park College just sped off but we were determined to win! We all worked really well together and because of all our hard work, we won!

Overall it was great fun, we learnt new skills and got to be competitive. Good job girls!

Fitness Testing

Last week, students completed their second round of fitness tests facilitated by Global Performance Testing. As part of their Problem Based Learning task for their Managing Fitness Unit in Healthy Lifestyles, students selected a fitness component that they wanted to improve, and designed their own activity plan. Along with completing the activities they had researched in class, they also participated in a number of sessions in their practical classes to improve their fitness components.

All students that completed the testing will have their results individually emailed to their school email account.

The team at Global Performance Testing were once again impressed with our student’s attitude, respect and commitment to the testing process.
