Hands on Learning

Term 3 was a very busy and productive term in Hands on Learning.

Our students continued with our community project constructing picnic tables and chairs for Tower Hill.  This project has been a fantastic way for them to learn and develop their hand skills and work as a team to construct the tables and chairs.  The pieces already look great and the finished product will certainly be something our Hands on Learning students can be proud of.  We are looking to hand deliver the picnic tables and chairs to Tower Hill in Term 4.

With all the renovations happening at the school at present, we were asked by the maintenance team to help clear out some old carpet from the old staff room.  Our students jumped at the chance to get involved and worked together to get the job done in record time.  It was dirty sweaty work, but no one complained, and everyone just got on with the job and got it done which was fantastic to see!

Students have also started and continued with other projects in Hands on Learning including:

  • Sanding and painting trolleys for Food Share (refurbished 12 trolleys for 2018).
  • Maintaining our aquaponics system and gold fish.
  • Growing, planting and harvesting vegetables in our outdoor garden and aquaponics.
  • Constructing a new gutter garden from recyclable materials.
  • Working on individual projects such as pallet chairs, pencil boxes, dog kennels & cat scratching posts.
  • Rebuilding an old Pee Wee 50 motorbike.
  • Repairing the school mountain bikes.
  • Building a display trolley to sell goods made by Hands on Learning students.

In Term 4, students will be finishing off some products which will be sold throughout the term from our display trolley.  Some of these products will include succulents, vegetable seedlings and cloth food covers, so watch this space for more details.

We are very proud of our students in what they have been able to achieve in Hands on Learning whether that be in their personal growth or from the work they have completed.
