Chess Club

Congratulations to our CHS Chess Team for playing host to an outstanding inter-school chess tournament, held in our fine new Learning Resource Centre. With over 120 attendees from schools such as Albert Park College, Xavier College, Brunswick Secondary College and Reservoir High School, we achieved our best result ever (tied for second place, just one point behind the eventual winner). Extra special mention goes to Esther P of Year 9 who finished in 2nd place overall. Congratulations to Max M of Year 10 and Emily F of Year 7 (who also medalled in her division) as our latest students to qualify for the State Championships later in the year.

Bike Club and the 'Great Victorian Bike Ride'

We are planning to send nine of our fantastic cyclists on the Great Victorian Bike Ride which travels from Port Fairy to Torquay this year. This is an amazing route through the Otway National Park. There may be spots available for some additional students if interested in joining this amazing five day trip. For more information or inquiries, please contact Theo Hartman or Chris Bray at the school.

Investigative Journalism in Media classes

On Tuesday June 25, Lachie's Year 9 Media class were lucky enough to have a visit from ABC News state political reporter, Richard Willingham. He talked about his career in journalism from Jakarta to Canberra and now here in Melbourne, and what his job is like on a day-to-day basis. We asked him some questions about the strangest stories he's covered (dogs in parliament house), famous people he's interviewed (including prime ministers) and his biggest stories (the euthanasia laws in Victoria). It was great to have some insight into a career that is directly linked to the Media subject, and thank you very much to Richard for giving up his time to visit us!
