Twilight Evening
Congratulations to the fantastic performers who entertained us during the Twilight Evening! What talented musicians, singers, dancers and artists we have at the College and in Cumberland! Also, congratulations to the wonderful Year 6 Leaders who took tours during the Twilight Evening. The students were very eager to take the tours and talk about their school. They conducted themselves very well, were courteous, wore their uniform with pride and were great ambassadors for the school. Many of the parents who went on the tours with our Cumberland leaders made a special effort to say how wonderful they thought our leaders were.
Mad About Science Live Show
4A Student Reflections
Cumberland and Fairview saw a science show (Mad About Science) on Friday. The scientist talked about air, electricity and fire. She first talked about air. There was a machine called Airzooka and that made wind. She said that even though we cannot see the air, it does not mean it is not there. Then she put smoke in it that made a smoke ring. For electricity, the scientist showed us a different machine. Volunteers stood on a stool so the electricity would not get to your body but it still made your hair raise. Last of all, she showed us that if you take the tea leaves out of a tea bag and put the tea bag on a lit candle, the tea bag will go up then when it comes down it is all ash.

What we saw at Mad About Science was air, electricity and fire. My favourite part about Mad About Science was the Airzooka because when it was shot out it looked like rings and when the ring shot at you, the air pushed you back and it felt cold and refreshing.

Mad About Science was so funny and cool. There was fire, electricity and the mighty Airzooka. The Airzooka made loops and each time you pushed the trigger loops of gas came. The fire almost touched the roof; it was so cool and amazing. What I loved the most was the Airzooka and the gas machine kept on spraying more gas each time the scientist was talking. It was so much fun and I loved it!

Kitchen Garden Update
During Term 4, 5M has had the opportunity of participating in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. In this program, we get to look after the chickens and study their behaviour as part of our assessment. Every week different groups are doing different garden activities such as harvesting, weeding, collecting eggs from the chickens, making sure they are all right and collecting snails.
When going over to the chickens you need to collect the eggs and make sure the chickens have enough water. Chickens have a large tube that contains their feed. Another thing chickens eat is snails. One group finds snails and then they go into the chicken coop to scatter the snails for the chickens to eat.
As part of the program, every Wednesday we cook. There is one adult helper per group to help the students in their group. Sometimes the groups make the same things and sometimes the groups make different things. So far, we have made pastry parcels, fried rice with lettuce cups, broad bean dip and flat bread. I really enjoy the program!
