VCAL Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Camp
Challenging yourself and moving out of your comfort zone - that is what it is all about with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Adventurous Journey component. This year, the VCAL students completed their five and six-day Bronze and Silver Award in the Northern Strathbogie Ranges. Students travelled to Benalla by train, hitched tents and completed challenging activities; including team building exercises, long exploration hikes, bike riding, rock climbing, abseiling, a strategic crate stacking and flying fox activity, archery and completed a cycling obstacle course. Students organised the campsite which included carrying their backpacks, food for lunch and dinner, setting and packing up the tents and preparing group meals and cooking them on trangia stoves, an open fire or the campsite kitchen facilities as well as being an active participant in all the cleaning up duties.
