As the 2019 year comes to a close I would like to reflect on some of the wonderful and positive events that have occurred throughout the junior school this year.

YEAR 7

The year 7 students have collectively been outstanding and we are so proud of the way in which they have transitioned into our College. They have most certainly set the bar very high for our 2020 Year 7 students!

The year began with a fun-filled adventure camp to Grantville Lodge. Relationships were built and new friendships made, kicking off the year on a very positive note. Students then adapted to the secondary school way of life and have embraced challenges head on. It has been brilliant to see students stepping up into leadership roles, representing their Home Groups and Year Level with pride. This culminated in a stirring speech from Layla at the Year 12 end of year assembly.

Some of our Year 7s took on the challenge of the school production and without a doubt had the time of their lives with three tremendous performances in August. We have had success across the sporting events as well, with students making it to various levels in inter-school sport events and individualised events such as cross country and athletics. The introduction of the C4S program has seen a number of our students continue to build their independence, social and emotional skills by participating in weekly sessions with hands on tasks such as cooking and survivor based activities. Our Year 7s this year have shown us that building positive relationships is vital and we will continue to build on this throughout 2020 as a year 8 cohort.

YEAR 8

The year 8 students took on the challenge of another year in the junior school with gusto!! We have had many new enrolments and our students have been extremely welcoming and supportive of their new peers.

Year 8 students have had new opportunities this year to engage in school with the commencement of a variety of programs. We saw the introduction of Hands on Learning (HOL), running every Friday for approximately 10 students. This has assisted some of our students to build skills for the future with a focus on the trade industry. Students were also invited to be in the TryMentoring program, occurring weekly on Wednesdays Period 5 and run by an ex-NBA basketballer. Connect4Success (C4S) commenced in semester 2 for some of our Year 8s, working on social and emotional skills via a range of hands on based tasks. CESC appointed a Youth Worker in Semester 2 also, which saw the introduction of lunchtime based activities for all students to participate in and in particular, the establishment of the 3:3 basketball academy in Term 4 which was open to all year 8 students. Our students have embraced these changes and have demonstrated that they enjoy these new options to break up the routine of daily life in a four-walled classroom!

So as our students move towards Step Up, commencing the first week of December, I want them to know how proud I am, personally, of each of them. There have been many challenges to face and overcome and our students have done so in a respectful and co-operative manner. I wish them all the very best as they journey into their next year level.

Year 8 News

As the 2019 academic year comes to a close, we would like to thank Year 8 parents, students and teachers for their ongoing contributions to make this year a successful one in the classroom.

At Assembly on Thursday 14th November the year 8 cohort voted for the students who they would like to lead them in Year 9 in 2020.  Congratulations to Mo Milosevic, Will Richards, Adithya Pradeep and Hanna Tibusious who bravely spoke at assembly to put forward their case for leading the year level in 2020.

Lastly, students have now all received their electives for next year and will be soon informed of their new home groups.  We congratulate the students who through their hard work received entry into these classes. We wish you all the best for your year 9 Year in 2020!
