Classroom News - Year 6

Science
Year 6 made their third and final version of plastic bag ice-cream for an international judge direct from France. Each group needed to design a survey for the judge to provide feedback on their ice-creams. The surveys needed to include Lickert scales which meant that students needed to think about the kinds of questions they asked. Unfortunately none of the ice-creams achieved the good consistencies we had in previous weeks, but this led to a good discussion on what the cause may have been and how we could test for this using the scientific process.
Writing
Writing in Year 6 continues to improve and impress this term. For one of our writing sessions we worked collaboratively with our friends to write a story. All the groups had the same story starter and had to write the first paragraph and then pass their writing on to the next group. Each group then had to read the previous groups’ writing and write the next paragraph. This process continued until stories were finished. It was very interesting in how each story unfolded and the way the students cooperated with each other to complete the task within a given time limit.
Step Day
Last Thursday, Year 6 travelled to O’Connor Catholic College to experience a day in High School. Students participated in a range of lessons such as: French, English, Science and PE. We would like to thank the students and teachers at O’Connor for their hospitality and their welcoming message to their school.
