Classroom News - Year 2

St Joseph's Cup
Congratulation to all the finalists in the Year 2 Public Speaking. There were eight finalists altogether, with four from 2G and four from 2F. Our finalists were Edith Clynch, Beau Hill, Jack Walkley, Staten Dowse, Mauve Curry, Audrey Heather, Mercy Suluma and Emma Birnie. We were very proud of all the children, especially those who were able to learn their speech by rote, and those who wrote their own speech.
The winner was Staten Dowse, who joined Lucy Bible in the whole school St Joseph's Cup Public Speaking final on Tuesday. Congratulations to Lucy Bible who won the Year 2 section and was the Champion for the Infants.
Park Excursion
Year 2 went on their walking excursion last Wednesday. Thank you to all our parent and grandparent helpers who were able to come with us on the day. Despite the weather being very windy, it was a warm day and we were able to visit all the parks as planned. We started with the Skate Park, then checked out Rugby League Park- the home of the RAMS. While visiting Harris Park we used the athletic track to have our own race. We walked along the bike track to Civic Park and saw some ducks on the pond. When we reached Curtis Park we had our picnic lunch and a play. The highlight was the "Talking Toilet" and the blue tongue lizard!
We were a bit tired when we began our walk up to Central Park and enjoyed having a little rest before heading back to school.
Thanks again to Mr and Mrs Dowse, Leesa Bible, Jess Allingham and to the Birnie family who met us for lunch.
Gymnastics
We have already completed 2 weeks of our Gymnastic program. This will continue right through until the end of term. The children thoroughly enjoy going up to the gymnasium and participating in all the activities. Its wonderful to see them all growing in confidence as the challenge themselves to try new things.
Musica Viva
We were fortunate to have Musica Viva visit the school on Thursday last week. The children were able to go along during their normal music time. The group were very entertaining and the children responded well. We always look forward to these visits and are pleased the government continues to support this great initiative. Thanks to Ms McNeal for organising this for us.
Shoelace Man
Last week we were visited by "The Shoelace Man", who endeavoured to teach the children how to tie their shoelaces...with mixed results. However, since the visit the children have been very, very keen to try and do it for themselves, and some children are enjoying teaching others. There seem to be quite a few variants on HOW, and some children have even shared rhymes and videos that they have used to help them learn.
Talk Homework
Thank you for all your help in completing the 'Talk Homework' with your children. It is making a big difference to their writing. They always come prepared with their ideas ready to go on Thursday. We will be beginning Narratives to finish off the term. Watch out for those important Talk Homework notes!! They should come home on Mondays!
