Sustainability/Ecological Justice

Sustainability / Ecological Justice @ SJE

Justice is at the heart of who we are and what we do as a school community at St. Joseph’s College. Justice for people and the environment. The following seven St Joseph’s students have successfully

applied to be our College Ecological Justice Leaders (Eco Justice Leaders) in 2020.

Congratulations, Jaida Bourke, Jaxon Bourke, Arielle Dolan, Chais Dunstan, Anthony Mammone, Holly Moyle and Milly Shanahan! Your commitment and willingness to lead the school community are to be commended. We are looking forward to a student driven change towards a more sustainable and ecologically just St Joseph’s College. Stay tuned for more!

Two other student groups have already embraced sustainability:

Both Year 10 Enterprise groups have got a worm farm up and running using food scraps from the staffroom and Foods area.

VCAL students have conducted surveys across the school on the use of single use vs refillable water bottles and lunch boxes vs plastic packaged lunches. Results will be published on SIMOn and in the next newsletter. The VCAL group will also be involved in the Clean Up Australia Day activities on Friday 28th February 2020.

Thumbs Up! to the above students and to everyone in our college community who seeks to

Refuse - reduce - reuse - recycle or compost their waste!

You are ‘walking the walk’, making our 2020 college motto real!

Assume Responsibility

Seek Unity

                                            Restore Reason

What a sustainable start to 2020!

Kind Regards,

Mrs Ruth Phillips
