Sandhurst Student Leadership Day

On Friday 7th February, four of our outstanding Beacon leaders from Year 10 attended the Inaugural Sandhurst Student Leadership Day. The day was designed and organised to allow student leaders from across the Diocese to meet, network and listen/interact with guest speakers to learn more about leadership and in particular, servant leadership. Guest speakers on the day included the Director of Catholic Education Sandhurst, Mr Paul Desmond, Maria Weatherill (Catholic Identity – CEO Sandhurst), Michael Chisholm (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education Leader - CEO Sandhurst) and Kate Wilde (The Human Development Workshop). The day was extremely positive with all students commenting on the skills and knowledge learnt. Well done to Holly Moyle, Sophie Fraser, Macy Larkin and Hannah Thompson for your participation and leadership shown on the day. A big thank you to Kellie Wright for transporting and supervising the students.

Year 7 Camp

On Tuesday the 4th February, Year 7 students came to school with mixed emotions of nerves and excitement to attend their first High School Camp. The students headed to Marysville, with the aim of getting to know other students, having fun in the outdoors and teambuilding.

While on camp students were split into groups and had the opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, cycling, hiking, bush skills and swimming. These groups also participated in initiative and team building activates through a Mini Olympics competition.

While on their hike, students learnt about the Marysville environment, the different trees, plants and animals as well as the history of the devastating Black Saturday Bushfires that tore through the town.

The annual Year 7 Talent Show was a hit, with a large number of brave students showing off their talents to their peers. We had life coaching, comedic acts, singing and dancing to fill our night with amazement and laughter.

By the end of the camp students had met many new people, including some of the teachers that they would have for the remainder of the year. Students left camp after having a lot of fun with a positive feeling about what the rest of the year would entail.

Year 7 Camp Reflections

On camp in Marysville what I enjoyed most was making new friends some of which I have kept as friends.

I also liked learning about Black Saturday. I liked doing bike riding, rock climbing and canoeing. I enjoyed bike riding because the hill we went down was steep but really fun. In rock climbing I am really scared of heights and I was nearly at the top and made myself keep going. Once I got to the top I was so proud of myself. I liked canoeing because l got to partner up with someone I didn’t know and we had a lot of fun.   -Jake

Year 7 Camp was great fun, it was a good opportunity for me to make new friends, have fun and meet my new teachers. My favourite part of the camp was bike riding, canoeing and rock climbing. We had time to do lots of fun activities and we worked as a team.  Year 7 Camp was great!   - Makenna

At camp we did LOADS of things that I loved like meeting new friends, outdoor activities and having fun! Overall, it was pretty Amazing! The rock climbing, bike riding and canoeing were the best of all!!  - Yarran
