ANZAC Day

Saturday 25th April 2020

This past Saturday (25 April), we all commemorated Anzac Day a little bit differently. Normally, as many KSC families know, I would have been assisting with Melbourne’s Anzac Day Parade at the Shrine of Remembrance. This year, I could not do as such, but still commemorated Anzac Day in my own way. I am hoping you did too.

This year, many people throughout Australia participated in the RSL’s ‘Light Up Dawn’ initiative by commemorating Anzac Day by standing outside the front of their houses and participating in the Dawn Service.

You might be aware that one of our college houses (Lang House) is named after two Melton Anzac soldiers, Horace and Thomas Lang. Both men died during the Great War and are commemorated on our local cenotaph, as well as on overseas memorials in France and Egypt. To recognise the service and sacrifice, not only of Horace and Thomas Lang, but of our Melton community, I recently asked our KSC community for photos of their commemorations.

I had over 25 students, parents, and staff respond to my request. I think this is a fantastic response and I hope you have received my reply. As I mentioned to each person, Anzac can mean so many different things to every single one of us, but it does come down to its common values – mateship, courage, endurance, candour, devotion, and ingenuity amongst others. It was so pleasing to see the different ways on how our college community commemorated and reflected upon these values this year. Thank you!

Please see 6 collages I have created using our community’s photos. I apologise in advance if I have missed anyone’s contribution, but I think they’re all there. I hope these collages will be available on our college website shortly.

I hope you enjoy our college community’s photos. Thank you.

Lest We Forget.
