Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

I would like to thank all parents that have given me such positive feedback about the school lately.  The teachers always appreciate the kind words of parents for the work that they do. They love their jobs because they love watching children grow and learn. I also loved last week’s assembly with so many of our children wanting to help others in a charitable way.

Katherine Bolton

Katherine is one of our brilliant teachers and is our 3/4 team leader. On Monday Katherine started a 5 week stint as the Acting Principal of Marlborough Primary School, which is Heathmont. I’m sure you will join with me in congratulating Katherine on her short-term promotion. We know she will learn a lot while she is away, but we will all miss her of course.

Hoop Time

During the week our 3/4 students and our 5/6 students competed in the Yarra Valley Hoop Time basketball competition. The best thing about Hoop Time is that students that have never played basketball before get to play against other students that are rookies to the sport. More experienced basketballers play against the top teams from other schools. Our students represented the school very well and made us very proud.  Mr Gibbons is very proud that our school won the most grand finals. Mr Gibbons said, ‘it’s the journey not the winning that counts. I’m just pleased that our kids had fun and represented the school well.

More School’s Visiting Us

Last week another two schools visited our school to look and learn from our teachers. We had Kialla West Primary School (which is near Shepparton) and Moe Primary School. Both are a long way from our school. I congratulate both schools on their commitment to education. Both schools said wonderful things about what they saw and were amazed at our beautiful kids.

Poetry Celebration

Our poetry celebration open afternoon was simply brilliant. I think our school seems to be opening its own ‘Dead Poets Society’. If you were one of the parents that braved our parking issues and traffic, I truly thank you for your commitment. We know that students will always do better writing if they are writing for a real purpose. I thought the standard of writing across the school was brilliant!

This week in the newsletter we are publishing some of the 5/6 work.

Pick up from classrooms at the end of the day

Please remember we would like all parents to wait outside classrooms until the bell goes at 3:10pm. This means please do not wait in the corridors or look and wave through classroom windows. The end of the day is never the easiest time for teachers. Having parents distract the students is the last thing the teacher needs as they try to hand out notices and give instructions for the requirements for the next day. I hope our whole parent community will be understanding about this.

Prep Enrolments for 2024

We have closed enrolments for 2024 and we welcome all the new families that were able to secure a place at our school. We did unfortunately have to say no to several families. It is a positive that our school brand is thought of so highly.   The new families to the school are coming at just the right time, by February our school is going to look amazing with all the new facilities, basketball courts and playgrounds.

Have a great week!

And remember when life gets a little difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book!
