COHR Italian Day -Reflection
ITALIAN DAY MONDAY 19TH JUNE
What a wonderful day for our students, staff, parents and wider COHR community!
Smiles and a sea of green, white and red surrounded our school. Students commenced their day with a whole school assembly where they prayed in Italian and danced “il ballo di qua qua” (the chicken dance). Our older students danced with our younger students with such enthusiasm. Followed by an incursion with Mr. Fagiolo (Mr. bean), where he took the students on a journey reflecting on Italian immigration in such a funny and enjoyable way. The dancing wasn’t over for the students as he taught them the tarantella (a traditional Italian dance). COHR staff and students danced as a whole school! A fantastic effort by all!
For the remainder of the day the students were involved in various activities which took in other curriculum areas such as STEM, literacy and the arts. Lunch time was pizza and gelato for all. A big thank you to Tarrantino’s pizza for making the pizza and for also donating a voucher for our raffle. Every student’s name was placed in the draw. Congratulations to Athan (5/6G) for winning 1st prize and Isabella.S (5/6 I) winning 2nd prize. Thanks to all the parents and family members who joined us on the day either at assembly or assisting with distributing pizza and gelati. Thank you to the following year 5 students, Macie, Olga, Cedar and Liesel who took the initiative to make games suited to our junior students and run these games during lunchtime on the day.
Here are some reflections by our senior students…
Italian Day Reflection (by Miette 5/6 C)
Italian day in 2023 was really fun and a great opportunity to learn a little bit more about the Italian culture. We got to learn different Italian dances such as the Tarantella and got to eat Italian food.
It was a great experience to have Mr Fagiolo come in and share about his Papa's migration and how things worked in Italy during the early 1900s. He also taught us a version of the Tarantella which we got to do with a partner.
Having a pizza lunch was extra delicious and the gelato was so sweet and tasty.
2023 Italian day was a really fun experience and I hope I can one day travel to Italy and try the real experience for myself.

I enjoyed Italian day because it felt traditional and it was entertaining. I also enjoyed the pizza and gelato. The activities we did were very fun and exciting some of the activities we did were bocce, pasta art, sculptures, reading and dancing. We also had Mr Fagiolo come to our school to tell us a
story about his dad, he also taught us a bit about the Italian language.
Overall it was a very fun and patriotic day, I enjoyed all the activities and food and I thank Signora Pansino for making this day possible.
Italian Day Reflection (by Josef 5/6I)
The Italian day was a good and it was an awesome experience. We all got split up into 4 groups depending on which house colour we were in. We did activities about Italian things and we also created things like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We danced and sang along to an Italian video we also got instruments like drums and we created an Italian rhythm. In my second rotation we made an Italian drawing and with got PVA glue and stuck raw pasta on the edges. It was really fun. We also talked about all the different kinds of pasta there is such as macaroni and many more but I don't remember the names of them all. In my third rotation, we watched a video about some interesting facts about the leaning tower of Pisa and then as a small group we had to try and create our own leaning tower of Pisa using paper, cardboard and tape.
