Welcome to Week 2 of Term 3 2023

Please find below this week’s sport news and reminders.

TCS Athletics Team:

SMCC athletes will compete in the TCS Athletics carnival. The program is finalised (please see below)

An email will be sent to all athletes on Thursday 20th July with more information. 

 

Monday 24th July

TCS 1500m 

  • 4.00pm at SMCC Oval. 
  • All students need to be at the SMCC oval by 3.45pm.
Tuesday 25th July

TCS Athletics Carnival 10-12 years at Barlow Park

  • Students to be at the college by 7.45am for an 8.10am departure. 
  • 9am start with an approximate finish time of 3.00pm. 
  • Students estimated to return to the college by 3.20pm.
Wednesday 26th July

TCS Athletics Carnival 13-19 years at Barlow Park. 

  • Students to be at the college by 7.30am for an 8.10am departure. 
  • 9am start with an approximate finish time of 3.00pm. 
  • Students estimated to return to the college by 3.20pm.

Junior Sport: Year 7, 8, 9 Sport Program:

JSS Sport: Wednesday afternoons

Students have commenced JSS Competition. Well done to all students selected into the JSS teams. Best of luck to our SMCC teams for the intense competition, you all represented yourselves and the College well. 

 

Students are expected to wear their SMCC sport uniform and appropriate footwear weekly. Please bring a hat and sunscreen. You will need to eat your lunch whilst being marked off the roll and meet your sports coach at 12:35pm weekly. You will depart the college at 12.45pm weekly to head to your venues.

Junior Sport (Year 7,8,9 students not in JSS teams):

Year 7, 8, 9 students, not participating in JSS Competition, have been placed into the Junior Sport Program.

 

The Junior Sport Program started on Wednesday 19th July and it provides students the opportunity to engage in the following sports options below for Term 3 and Term 4. The program is weekly on Wednesday afternoons from 1:17pm-2:57pm. 

 

Students are expected to wear their school sports uniform, appropriate footwear and bring their hat, sunscreen and water bottle. 

 

Junior Sport Program sport options:

  • Soccer Program (Delivered by an accredited soccer coach)
  • Hockey Program (Delivered by a performance hockey coach)
  • Netball Program (Delivered by an advanced netball coach)
  • Sports Rotations (2-week rotations) and Sports include: Ten Pin Bowling, Golf, Boxing, Gym, Outdoor fitness, Yoga, Cricket, & Volleyball.

Senior Sport: Year 10 & Year 11 Interhouse Sports Competition

Semester 2 will see the Year 10 and 11 students engage and compete in the Interhouse Sports Competition which will commence in Week 3. Students have been placed into teams in their house groups.

 

Teams selected from their houses will compete for house points in the sports below:

  • Cricket
  • Basketball
  • Touch Football
  • Netball
  • Volleyball
  • Futsal

 

Students not participating in the Interhouse Sports Competition have the opportunity to do Chess Club, Aspire to Teach Program, and/or Service & Justice group. 

All Senior Sports teams have been sent to students and a copy is located in the Sports Department Display cabinet. 

 

St Mary’s and the Cairns Running Festival

Huge congratulations to all the students and volunteers that participated at the Cairns Running Festival. Below are some photos taken from the festival, only a few students from Running Squad competed at the grueling event.

SMCC Netball Team Fundraiser 

St Mary's Netball team will hold a fundraiser this Saturday, 22nd July at Bunning in Portsmith. Make sure to show your support and help send out girls to Brisbane to compete at the State Championship!

Student expectations

No mobile phones during Sport: This includes all sport groups travelling offsite and JSS teams. Failure to meet this expectation will result in a detention. 

 

Expectations for students with regards to organisation: 

  • Read the Notices Located on the Student Portal each school day. 
  • Bring a water bottle, hat and wear the appropriate attire and footwear to every Sport lesson. 
  • If your sport is a fitness-based activity, you will need to bring a towel. 

 

Expectations for students with regards to behaviour and engagement: 

  • Participate in the Sport/ Activity to the best of their ability.
  • Represent our College well when travelling offsite.
  • Demonstrate respectful and appreciative behaviour towards any outside provider facilitating a program along with a St Mary’s staff member.

 

Please note: Our Sport program involves some groups travelling offsite, therefore, please avoid making appointments during Tuesday and Wednesday sport.

 


TCS & Peninsula Trials

Parents/ carers will need to contact the College regarding any school absence due to students attending Peninsula trials which occur during school hours. TCS trials occur afterschool. 

 

Students are reminded to collect signed Peninsula paperwork from the Sport Department staffroom to take to their TCS trials. Students will NOT be allowed to trial if they do not have this paperwork. 

 

Students and their families are responsible for: 

Logging onto the Student Portal to obtain: 

  • TCS Calendar (this tells you when your trial is on)
  • Peninsula paperwork (complete, hand in & collect to take to trial)
  • Notice of Trial (This document is uploaded to TCS Sport app within two weeks of trial) 
  • Follow the timelines outlined in the Peninsula Paperwork Process

 

Sport Coordinator Availability to support students in TCS & Peninsula Paperwork processes: 

8:10am – 8:25am: Tuesday – Friday

Second half of Second Lunch: Monday – Friday 

3:15pm – 3:30pm: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
