K-10 Athletics Carnival, Leeroi makes NSW Rugby League Team, NAIDOC Week Touch, Zach selected into Polding Rugby Union team
With participation levels at an all-time high and the rain not holding us back, the St Philomena's K-10 school community enjoyed a great day of fierce but friendly competition at this year's Athletics Carnival, on Thursday 22 June. All students demonstrated their enthusiasm and house spirit, competing in track and field events and cheering for fellow house members. This led to some very close results, particularly with our house points. But in the end, Mercy came out victorious, narrowly beating Goretti.
Students participated in a variety of events including the 100m sprint, field events, relays and the all important Champion of Champions. Congratulations to our Boy Champion of Champions, Tom Hall, and our Girl Champion of Champions, Shaylyn Smith. Well done!

Our St Philomena's Primary Athletics Team will travel to Tamworth on Friday 18 August and our Secondary Athletics Team will travel to Tamworth on Wednesday 9 August to compete at the Diocesan Athletics Carnivals. Good luck to all athletes!
On 23 June, Leeroi Stokes travelled to Wagga Wagga to represent the Armidale Diocese at the NSWPSSA U12s Rugby League Championships. It was a great few days with the Polding team playing some outstanding footy placing them 7th overall!
Leeroi was selected into the NSW squad where he had to attend Rugby League camp during the holidays in Sydney. He had to impress selectors once more to be selected into the NSW Rugby League Team. With a huge week of footy, Leeroi proved his talent and capabilities on the league field and was named in the New South Wales U12s Rugby League Team. This week Leeroi has travelled to Townsville with his NSW teammates to play in the School Sport Australia Championships. What an amazing achievement! Congratulations, Leeroi!
On Wednesday 28 June, selected Year 5 & 6 students participated in the NAIDOC Week Touch Cup at Moree Public School. Our St Philomena's A team put in a solid performance throughout the day against Moree Public and Moree East Public, progressing into the Grand Final undefeated. We played Moree Public School's A team in the Grand Final and took out the win! The game showed that Phillies have the ability to put in great plays, working together as a team.
Nyarii Munro and Beau Bridge demonstrated some exceptional touch football skills and were awarded best players on the day.
Our St Philomena's B team were also unstoppable showing off their speed and ball skills progressing them into the Semi Finals. We played Moree Public School's A team in the Semi Final and unfortunately we went down by three tries. Matilda Ward used her outstanding touch football skills to make multiple breaks throughout the day. She was also awarded best player on the field.
Both St Philomena's teams are to be congratulated on their great sportsmanship and dedication throughout the day, well done!
On Thursday 29 June, St Philomena’s students played against Moree Secondary College for the annual NAIDOC Touch Cup. Students participated in a round robin competition where they versed Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 teams from St Philomena’s and Moree Secondary College.
The Grand Final was against St Philomena’s and Moree Secondary College. Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent Phillies in the final on the day: Marley Swan, Katelyn Scholl, Peyton Raveneau, Justin Norrie, Haylie Turner, Tom Hall, Caleb Scholl, Jacob Williams, Rylee O’Dempsey and Jenovah Joseph. The final ended in a nail biting finish with St Philomena’s unfortunately going down 5-4 in the final minutes. It showcased the true essence of competition, where success is not solely determined by the score but also by the display of sportsmanship, teamwork and determination. A special congratulations goes to Jenovah Joseph who was awarded Players Player for St Philomena’s.
Well done to everyone for fostering teamwork, promoting sportsmanship and cultivating a love for healthy competition amongst our local community.
On Sunday 25 June, Leeroi Stokes, Zach Hobday, Darcy Osborn and Bruce Antees travelled to Forbes to represent the Armidale Diocese at the NSWCPS Rugby Union Championships. The boys did a phenomenal job showcasing their Rugby Union skills and were congratulated on their efforts from the coach.
Congratulations to Zach Hobday who was selected into the Polding Rugby Union team to compete at the NSWPSSA Rugby Union Championships later in the year. Good luck, Zach!
