International Friendship Day

This year our school is celebrating International friendship day. It’s a day to celebrate our friends and the friendships we have. It also a day we can step back on reflect on what friendship mean to you and what it means to be a good friend and whether our friendships respect our own core values and belief?.

On Tuesday 8th August we will be having a photo booth running at recess and lunch time so you can grab your friends and have a photo taken that will then be stuck to a large poster the SRC are making to celebrate friendships. There will also be some lunchtime activities running in the library that will include friendship bracelet making, and colouring. Please feel free to come and join in.

Sharing the human spirit through friendship

Our world faces many challenges, crises and forces of division — such as poverty, violence, and human rights abuses — many others — that undermine peace, security, development and social harmony among the world's peoples.

To confront those crises and challenges, their root causes must be addressed by promoting and defending a shared spirit of human solidarity that takes many forms — the simplest of which is friendship.

Through friendship — by accumulating bonds of camaraderie and developing strong ties of trust — we can contribute to the fundamental shifts that are urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, weave a safety net that will protect us all, and generate passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good.

“One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and be understood”

Lucius Annaeus Seneca.

Wear It Purple Day – Friday 25th August

Later this term the school will be hosting Wear It Purple Day. There will be merchandise to buy on the day and students and staff can wear a splash of purple to show their support!

What is the purpose of wear it purple day? I hear you ask!

Wear It Purple Day is all about celebrating and supporting young LGBTQIA+ people, and challenging societal attitudes to help shape a better world for us all to live in.

It is a day of significance for many Australians, it focuses on the issues our LGBTQIA+ youth face, whilst showing them they have the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming. Wear it Purple Day is now an international movement of expression, celebration and support.

Wear It Purple Day is a great opportunity to think about how you perceive other people, and how you can improve on being inclusive and respectful. Stand up and speak out. Learn about issues that are important to the community. If you come across a situation where others are being disrespectful to the LGBTQIA+ community, let them know it's not on. Encourage other people in your life to learn more about LGBTQIA+ issues and how they can be better allies to the community. Using your knowledge and passion for good is one of the best ways you can show your support for the rainbow community year-round.
