Living Sustainably: Convention Residuals Donated

At this year’s Hobart Convention, First National committed to delivering the most sustainable event possible and coordinated all its own catering and suppliers. Naturally there were some left over items. To assure nothing went to waste, residual food from each event went to local charities.

Back in Melbourne, left-over beanies, scarves, biscuits and sugar went to the homeless and needy via St Vinnies in Palmer Street, Fitzroy. Farmer Dave’s Ruff Track also received surplus food, pens, bags and other gifts.

Local suppliers in Tasmania received some of their largest ever orders, contributing massively to the local economy. In fact, the eucalyptus trees that created the Australiana feel throughout Princes Wharf One were grown specially for the event. These later went to local tree-planting initiatives and left-over hay bales went to local farmers.
