2023 Snow Trip

Sarah Shillabeer, Teacher

During the second week of the school holidays 37 students and five teachers took the long awaited coach ride to Mount Buller for the 2023 Snow Trip.

On Sunday morning we arrived to Aeski Lodge, our snow covered home away from home for the week. Mount Buller turned on the weather for our visit with four blue bird days and even giving us fresh snow on Tuesday and Thursday which of course meant many snowball fights. On Sunday afternoon students had their first of five lessons for snowboarding or skiing. Students were able to hone their skills over their trip with daily lessons from experienced snowboard and ski instructors from all over the world. When students were not in lesson, they were able to explore the mountain and the different runs. ABOM/Burke Street, Family, Summit and Standard were some of the favourites. Later in the week when students had learnt new skills they challenged themselves on black diamond runs like Summit Right, Howqua, Boggy Creek and Summit Slide. On Wednesday night students were able to night ski, and enjoy watching the sun set above the clouds.

Evenings in the lodge were passed with delicious dinners and enjoying activities like pool, table tennis, puzzles, movies, sauna, board games and lots of conversation. Seeing students building new and stronger friendships and making lifelong memories was a highlight for all.

When asked for a quote the most common was ‘best week of my life’, as well as ‘it was so good, I made lots of new friends’, ‘Grimus was gnar’, ‘the accommodation was great’, and ‘amazing experience, totally worth it’.
