IWelcome to Week 5!

In our Vertical Whole School Social Emotional Learning session, we will be focusing on further developing student awareness and use of the Zones of Regulation.

SEL Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Identifying what it looks, feels and sounds like in the Green Zone
  • Recognising and identifying tools that we can use to get back into the Green Zone

The Zones of Regulation offer many benefits for children and individuals of all ages, which includes:

Emotional Awareness: The Zones of Regulation help individuals become more aware of their emotions and feelings. By categorising emotions into distinct zones, it becomes easier to recognize and label what they are experiencing, leading to improved emotional intelligence.

Self-Regulation Skills: This equips individuals with practical strategies to manage and regulate their emotions effectively. By understanding which zone they are in, they can choose appropriate coping tools to move to a more desirable zone, promoting emotional self-control.

Improved Emotional Control: As individuals develop their self-regulation skills, they become better equipped to handle challenging emotions such as anger, frustration, and anxiety. This leads to a decrease in impulsive behaviours and more thoughtful responses to various situations.

Enhanced Social Skills: Understanding and managing emotions positively impact social interactions. Individuals can communicate their feelings more effectively, empathise with others, and build healthier relationships.

Ask your child what they know about the Zones of Regulation and the tools they use to self-regulate their emotions.
