Principal's Report

I hope you enjoy this newsletter, with reports from events in and out of the classroom from the beginning of Term 3.

I’d also encourage you to keep an eye on our official CHS Instagram and Facebook to keep on top of events between newsletters.

Production week is coming!

After many months of rehearsals, Alice in Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole is being performed next week. I would direct you to the tickets, but unfortunately, they are already all sold out! I'm sure this will be a great event with so many talented actors, musicians and crew involved. A big thanks to our wonderful Performing Arts team for coordinating this huge undertaking.

Technology Building Planning

We are continuing progress on the planning for the $17.8m Technology building. Of interest has been a historical photograph from 1946 which has been uncovered showing a former quarry on the school site:

The existence of the former quarry was a surprise to staff members in our school, none of whom were aware of it's existence. On the other hand, given the school grounds used to be part of the farmlands of Pentridge, it shouldn't be a surprise that the bluestone we associate with the prison likely came from underneath our feet. The implication of this finding is that the original siting of the Technology building from the Masterplan has needed to shift slightly, as the costs involved in building on a former quarry can be very high.

Staff and some members of our School Council have joined the architects from Bryant Alsop and undertaken two site visits to schools with Technology buildings in the past fortnight. The architects have held three meetings with staff from the Food Tech, Digi Tech and Media departments to gain their input and Richard has also presented to School Council.

There is a chance for wider consultation with the Coburg High School community with our architects. Parents/carers, staff and students are all welcome to an event planned for:

Monday 14 August

6pm to 7pm

AG.01 (come to the General Office if you're not sure where that is)

Please RSVP by completing this Google Form.

Staff and students will also have the ability to provide input earlier on the same day, more details to follow.

Merri-bek North Education Plan

The recently unveiled 'What We Heard' report of the Merri-bek North Education Plan is now available for everyone to read. Thanks to the many parents and carers, as well as students and staff, who provided their input into this process. There have now been a number of Education Plans created across the state, and the input from the local community has been highest in this plan, demonstrating the real interest and engagement in education in our part of Melbourne. We encourage you to take a moment to read through the report and stay informed about the upcoming developments including the release of the whole plan, expected to be later this year.

Student Achievement

Has your child had recent outside-school success or achievement? Congratulations! Would you like to share it with our community? If so please send details to virginia.mendoza@coburg.vic.edu.au along with a photo (if you have one) for us to include in 'Student Achievement' in our next newsletter.
