A reminder that on Thursday 31 August, St Norbert College will be holding the Year 7 and New Students Information Evening for all students commencing in 2024. The Information Evening provides families with important information about the transition program to assist current Year 6 students and students in other year groups commencing at St Norbert College next year. Both students and at least one parent or carer are required to attend the evening which commences at 6.00pm in the Fr Peter O’Reilly Centre. After an introduction to the whole group, families will then be split into smaller groups for some more informal presentations and discussion about what students can expect when they commence next year and how they can best prepare for this transition.
The elective selection process for Year 8-10 classes commenced today with a special Year 7 Assembly to take students through the process of completing their elective choices for next year using Subject Selection Online (SSO). Year 7 students have received an email informing them that SSO is now open to make their elective selections for 2024. For current Year 8 and Year 9 students, SSO will open in the coming days for their Year 9 and Year 10 elective selections in 2024. The closing date for all Year 7-9 elective selections for is Monday 21 August.
At the completion of the selection process, students must print out a copy of the ‘Selection Report’ and hand it in at Student Services signed by both themselves and a parent. Information regarding the curriculum choices on offer to students is available in SEQTA in the ‘Subject Selection Portal Page’.
Today in Homeroom, students in Year 7 and Year 9 were given an envelope containing a printed copy of their NAPLAN 2023 results. Electronic copies of these documents have already been uploaded to SEQTA. Parents will notice that the NAPLAN Reports look a little different from previous years in that the ranges of achievement are no longer listed as ‘Bands’ but are categorised as Exceeding; Strong; Developing and Needs Additional Support. The NAPLAN Reports still provide parents an indication of their child’s progress in relation to school and national standards. Today, Year 9 parents also received through SEQTA an important document from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority outlining how these updated achievement ranges correspond to OLNA requirements.
SCSA Handbooks (Part I and II) are available on SEQTA Documents as well as in the Year 12 Team. They are an excellent reference for all important information regarding graduation, examinations, student information and certification. In the coming weeks, students will be provided with an Organisational Booklet that takes them through the key events and information that they will need to prepare for in the lead up to Graduation and final examinations. The arrangements for Year 12 Graduation are proceeding well with Mrs Katelyn Godfrey, Mr Roger D’Almeida and the Graduation Committee doing an amazing amount of work.
Some of the important dates that Year 12 students and their families need to plan for are listed below:
The Parent Committee will be holding a special Parent Seminar on the dangers of vaping on Tuesday 29 August at 7.00pm. Vaping is a growing concern for parents, educators and medical professionals and has been proven to be highly addictive. Parents are asked to remember this date – Further details about the Seminar will be published in the coming weeks.
There are often times whereby students are required to leave school during the day for appointments or important events. In these situations where parents know in advance, it is important to email both the SNC Absentee email (absentee@norbert.wa.edu.au) and your child’s Homeroom teacher as students will be required to fill out a pink ‘Permission to Leave Early’ slip which the Homeroom teacher must sign. In those extraordinary cases where an unexpected situation arises and you need to pick your child up before 3.20pm, please contact the Main Administration as soon as possible so that the College staff are aware of these arrangements.
In situations where students are feeling unwell and wish to go home early, this must be organised through Student Services so that the College can best support the health and wellbeing of our students. It should never be the case that a student contacts a parent directly via email or mobile phone to request that they leave school. If a student needs to contact a parent, this must be done through Student Services and not through private devices. Parents are asked to be supportive of this and remind their children not to access their phones during school times.
