At the start of Term 3, staff embarked on professional learning prior to students returning. The theme of the first half of the day focused on mental health and wellbeing and how teachers can help support this.
The College was fortunate enough to have representatives from Headspace Cannington present about the services the Centre provides and ways in which to support the mental health of the students at the College. Some tips and information were also provided about how parents can help.
Mental Health Conversation
Mental Health Conversation can be challenging and overwhelming for parents. However, once they are had and the more they occur, ensure a positive outcome for young people. Below are four tips for parents from Headspace exerted from a resource called 'Starting a conversation with a young person about mental health'.

Headspace account
Another way to engage young people in an awareness of mental health is to empower them with knowledge and giving them some level of control in management of mental health. Headspace allows people aged between 12-25 or those concerned about a young person aged 12-25 to create a Headspace account which gives the user access to:
