Waste Authority's Waste Sorted Student Meet

Waste Sorted Student Meet

The Climate Canons have had a very exciting and successful week with St Norbert College hosting the Waste Authoritys, Waste Sorted Student Meet. This was an opportunity for like-minded students from all over Perth to come together to talk about sustainability and what schools are doing to fight the war on waste.

The Climate Canons have attended this event in the past, but this year we got to host it, which was an amazing experience for all 31 students involved. All students involved did an incredible job as greeters, tour guides, hosts, presenters, IT gurus and participants and were outstanding ambassadors of the College.

Guest speaker Ms Loraine Martin, shared with us some startling facts about fast fashion and schools shared their sustainability practices, tips and tricks about waste management. 19 schools, including five presenting schools and over 130 students, staff and industry providers packed into the Xanten Theatre and discussed, workshopped and networked ideas around the need to manage waste better. Lots of ideas were shared about how we can improve our practices here at the College too.

Thank you to Miss Claire Firth, Mrs Donna Bunyan, Mrs Michelle Hoffman and Mrs Keiko Gray who helped organise and supervise the event. A special thanks to Mr Gareth Travers, who supported us with IT, and Ms Amanda Marsh who added her artistic flair to recycling, assisting us with a vertical garden art project. The evening was a huge success, with a lot learned by all.

Now to put the ideas into action, watch this space!
