PREP

We are half way through Term 3. Time goes by so fast when you’re having fun and learning lots.

We have started stage 4 for Little Learners Love Literacy and this week we explored book number two.

We have had a big focus on our new sounds k, j, u, x, w.

Our BIG write in week 4 was all about a spooky magic door. We had to use our imaginations and write/draw about what could be beyond the door. Some of us shared our writing with our class, the year 1’s and 2’s.

This week, our BIG write was all about a whale in the sky and a boy. We had the opportunity to have a big discussion about how the whale got there, what it could be doing and what the boy is doing. The ideas were amazing. We then found out after that the whale was actually a giant kite and the boy was flying it.

In numeracy, we have started our multiplication and division unit. We are learning how to share. We are learning about how many groups, how many in each group and how do to a fair share. We have done lots of learning through doing.

Tomorrow, we are celebrating 100 DAYS OF PREP. We get to dress up as ‘what we want to be when we grow up’. We can’t wait to share this special day with the Preps and we have so many fun things planned.

If any families have any spare pants that aren’t being used anymore, we would really appreciate that these be donated to the Prep space for any incidents or accidents that occur for our little people.

GRADE 1/2

What a beautiful, sunny week we have had. The children have been enjoying skipping in the morning and during break times to continue raising money for Jump Rope for Heart.

In Year 1 we have been getting ready for our Learning Expo! We have been writing information reports on a chosen animal or country. We have also been creating a Triorama to match. We welcome families to visit on either Friday the 11th of August at 10:30am or on Monday 14th of August at 2:30pm. Other grades will also be visiting to check out our awesome work!

In Year 2 the students have been enjoying their 'clubs' session this term and we are at the start of our round 2 selection. We have loved seeing the students turning their new skills into hobbies and it has been so nice to see our students working with our amazing volunteers each week.

Both Year 1 and Year 2 have started their math unit on multiplication and division. We look forward to continuing to learn about groups, arrays, skip counting, repeated addition, and other strategies.

We are excited to announce that the Book Week Parade will be on Friday the 25th of August at 9:30am on the courts. We look forward to seeing all the children dressed up as book characters!

GRADE 3/4

Wow week 5 and we are already half way through the term!

We had the best time yesterday on our excursion to the Old Geelong Gaol. We learnt a lot about the convicts that arrived on the First Fleet, along with the other convicts that spent time at the Gaol. We finished up the day with some lunch and a play at a playground. We were super impressed with all of the kids yesterday!

This week is a special week for some of our students who are making their First Eucharist and Confirmation. On Friday they will be having a preparation day, where they will be making their own bread and attending a mass with Father Michael who will be preparing them for their Sacramental Mass this weekend. At this Mass the children will receive their sacraments. We send best wishes to these people at this special time in their lives.

REMINDER for Students in Grade 3 Deb/Lauren. For their upcoming Prayer Gathering, could you please send through pictures ASAP of the children with the special men in the children’s lives.

GRADE 5/6

It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through Term 3! The Grade 5/6s have been very busy over the last 2 weeks.

The Grade 5s continue to enjoy and engage with the Barking Spider team each Monday and Tuesday. This week, the students have been allocated their roles that they will be involved with working towards production night later in the term. The students put down their preferences for the roles they would like to be involved with and then Lynne and the teachers allocated roles such as Assistant Directors, Stage Management, the Sound team, the Design-Making and the Live Performance team. Students have begun their planning and preparing now that they have these roles sorted.

In Literacy, the Grade 5 students have been planning and preparing an Information Report on a country. They have been working on writing their information in paragraphs , paying attention to subject specific vocabulary, cause and effect connectives and varying openers. Grade 6s are finishing off their Poetry and Jabberwocky units. They are creating a ballad that tells a story (A narrative poem) with a Portmanteau (A word combining the sound and meaning of two others e.g. brunch). They will then be starting Information Reports once this is completed.

During Maths time, the Grade 6s are wrapping up their Fractions work through reviewing key concepts and extending some students who are ready for this. Grade 5s are consolidating some of their pre learned Fraction skills this week by working through a Google Slide; independently practising these skills.

It was very exciting to attend Trinity’s performance of ‘The Addams Family’ yesterday. Seeing many past students doing their thing on stage was a real thrill and our students thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Jade’s class will be leading Prayer Gathering this week celebrating the feast day of Saint Mary Mackillop. All are invited to attend. Maegan’s Prayer Gathering is next week (18/8) and will celebrate the Assumption of Mary.
