Week 3 Term 3

 Dear Parents and Carers,

This poster has details of a list of financial resources and support for families from the Brotherhood of St Laurence. The Brotherhood of St Laurence's mission is to work for an Australia free of Poverty.  Given the cost of living challenges at the moment, many families are doing it very tough and could use some help.

St Fidelis School Advisory Council-Tuesday July 18th

The St Fidelis School Advisory Council held its third meeting of the year on 18 July 2023. The meeting opened with an Acknowledgement of Country composed by one of our 1/2 classes, that reflected students’ respect for the traditional custodians of the land.

Members then contemplated the recent passing of former St Fidelis' teacher, Mrs Edwina Moulin, whose funeral was held earlier in the day and attended by many from the school community.

The Principal’s report included feedback on Parent Teacher Conversations, the impact of the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement on school operations, anticipated 2024 Foundation enrolment numbers, Sacrament planning and the success of recent school community and fundraising events.

Preliminary NAPLAN results for Year 3 and Year 5 students were shared and ways to increase family participation in the upcoming MACSIS School Improvement survey were discussed.

Options and ideas for a Sports/Athletics Carnival were workshopped and the planned rollout of the updated school uniform was outlined. A date for a Working Bee in late August was determined.

NAPLAN Information for 2023

In early March, our school completed the NAPLAN online computer-based assessments for Reading, writing, Mathematics and Language Conventions (Spelling/Grammar). NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year.  NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.

Later this week, Year 3 and 5 parents will receive a copy of their child’s report.

Please note that it is important to keep these NAPLAN results, as from experience, some secondary schools ask for these at enrolment time. If you have any questions regarding the enclosed information, please feel free to make an appointment to see your child’s teacher or Vira Pirrotta.

Amazing Race Dance Concert August 17th

For the last two terms, students have learnt a dance routine in their year levels. This has been to perform at our FOOTSTEPS concert on Thursday 17th August. All the students are expected to participate in the Whole School Dance Performance.  The Performance will take place in our School Hall at 7 pm. There is limited seating in our hall, therefore only families are invited to attend.  The family tickets are $30. This ticket admits entry for two adults and all siblings.

As there is no seating available for extended family, e.g. grandparents, we have made seating available at our dress rehearsal on Thursday 17th of August, free of charge.  More details about the rehearsal will be made available soon.

Parents, if you are attending the performance we ask that you not attend the dress rehearsal.

The cost of the family ticket will cover the cost of hiring the staging, audio and lighting equipment. Tickets will be available next week. Please look out for the Audiri post with all the information.

Both the teachers and students are excited, we are looking forward to this exciting event!

Parent/Student and Teacher Conversations

Last week, our school implemented a new format for our parent/teacher meetings, allowing the students to lead discussions about their learning experiences, challenges, and achievements. They fostered a stronger sense of community and reminded us all that we are in this together, collaborating to provide the best possible learning environment for our students.

The teachers and parents were incredibly proud of the student's efforts and commented on how well they spoke during the discussions. Thank you to the teachers for all their preparations to ensure the conversations were successful.

Have a wonderful week,

Manuela and Vira
