Term 3 Week 5
This week the Prep students have continued to enjoy fairytales. This week we have been looking at ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and practising to describe characters using adjectives. Prep students have also looked at identifying the problems and conclusions in stories. All of the work we are doing around the elements of stories will help us to write our own short stories in the coming weeks.
Students are doing a wonderful job at building their writing stamina and making great attempts at spelling tricky words by listening for and recording the sounds that they can hear.
We have been practising to be mindful during term three and on Friday we will look at breathing and how this can help us if we are feeling a bit grumpy or cross.
In numeracy, we are practising to use the strategy of ‘counting on’ when solving addition problems and have learned about the Commutative Law. Did you know that you can start at the larger number when adding and you will arrive at the same answer you would if you started at the smaller number? Wow! This makes our counting more efficient. On Friday we will move onto problem solving and the steps we can take to find an answer.
We have also helped a monkey to find his missing bananas to practise and use our knowledge of coding and giving directions and have looked at ordering objects according to their length.
On Wednesday we celebrated 100 Days of Learning! Who can believe that it has gone that quickly! Students dressed up as they might look when they are 100 years old and met with their class, completed literacy and numeracy activities that centred around the number 100 and took part in an online disco to celebrate. It was a great day! Look out for a video showing our work in next week’s assembly.
