YEAR 9 WOODWORK – WILDLIFE BOXES

In response to the fires that affected East Gippsland during last summer, a call went out to schools to produce wildlife boxes. Mr Joyce presented this opportunity to the Year 9 Woodwork class for their first project of the year.

A local community in Mallacoota, as well as the wildlife rescue teams requested the need of hundreds of boxes and they would welcome as many as could be made. The measurements and patterns for the boxes were provided by the wildlife rescue teams, specifying hole sizes for specific birds, bats and possums.

Early in Term 1, through the guidance of Mr Joyce, the Year 9 students choose an animal to construct a box for during their woodwork lessons.

With the impact of COVID-19 to classes, this project was put on hold as remote learning took place, only to be completed upon the students return late in Term 2 with Mr Santilli. Below is a photograph of Harry O’Leary with the various boxes constructed by the Year 9 Woodwork class.
