PRIDE WEEK

Our school leaders worked to recognise Pride Month at the end of Term 2, collecting signatures from the school body to promote acceptance.

SUCCESSFUL GRANT

KSC has been successful in a $ 500.00 grant through the H40 program to supply water bottles to schools. The grant is to assist in tap water consumption and reduction in disposable plastic bottles.

Picture here is Riley White (Yr 9 KSC) and Amy Van Kuyk, a representative from South Gippsland Water.

GRATITUDE AND HAPPINESS

Year 7/8 Like Minds started the Term on a positive note by examining the relationship between gratitude and happiness. They then produced two videos to share their results with the school community. Practicing gratitude has been scientifically proven to increase happiness.

PAC BALCONY PROGRESS UPDATE

The long awaited balcony upgrade for our Performing Arts Centre has begun, and the progress has been exciting to watch.

We look forward to being able to utilise the new areas in the coming months.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Our new-look breakfast club has commenced again in term three, thanks to the generous support of Foodbank and the Department of Education.

Foodbank  supports programs that give students the opportunity to eat a wholesome, nutritious breakfast on a regular basis. Having breakfast has been shown to have a positive impact on factors such as physical and mental health, social skills, concentration, behaviour, attendance and academic outcomes.

MAN BOX

As a lead school for the Respectful Relationships program in 2020, KSC is partnering with Jesuit Social Services to run a pilot program called ‘The Man Box’.

Over the last few weeks in term 2, our Year 10 and 11 students have been participating in online workshops that examine Australia’s notion of masculinity, and the effects this has on Men’s Mental Health and our general attitudes in society.

This work aligns with the social and emotional learning curriculum that is taught via Health and ACE, and will form the foundations for a school-wide conversation in coming months.

STUDENT CLIMATE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Abbey Nicholls has applied to participate in the Student Climate Leadership Program. This online program is designed to develop leadership, communication and organisation skills in a peer-to-peer mentoring model. Participants will be able to share ideas and learning and take action on Climate Change in their local community. The program runs outside class time.

Well done to Abbey for taking the initiative to be involved, and we wish her well with her application.

Any other students who are interested are encouraged to apply via https://www.schoolstrike4climate.com/training by the 26th of July.
