SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

A big welcome back to Term Three for all our students, families and staff.  We are very grateful that in regional Victoria we have been able to return to on-site learning, unlike those from Metropolitan Melbourne. This has been largely to do with the efforts of our local community to protect each other and ourselves during this time.

While we are in a much better position than Metropolitan Melbourne, there are a number of things that we can all be doing to continue to keep ourselves safe.  Parents are encouraged to still only come in to our school if necessary.  Most communication can be done over the phone or via email.  At our whole school assembly yesterday, I also reminded all students about not sharing equipment, especially drink bottles, with each other. Also, it’s a time when we all need to be particularly mindful of not leaving rubbish around which other people will then need to handle.

All our Semester Two classes started on Monday last week.  While there wasn’t much change for our Year 11 and 12 students, our Year 8 – 10 students are now all settled in to their new electives.  Many of these electives have already started a range of practical activities with many of these experiences being shared through our Facebook page each day.  Our Year 11 and 12 students will shortly be provided with course outlines for Semester Two, including clear expectations on work that needs to be completed for each subject, how it will be assessed and timelines for key assessments.

Some minor building works in and around our school continue to take place.  Restorations to the PAC balcony began over the school holidays and are continuing for the first part of this term.  This has resulted in part of the area outside the STEAM building being fenced off.  All students are doing a great job of making their way around this to get to various classrooms.  When completed, this new balcony will be a great addition to the outdoor landscape of our school.  Also, the path running from KSC back towards Korumburra has continued to be developed. This has been an inconvenience for our students who use this path to walk to and from school each day, but students are continuing to manage this with great care.  Again, when this is finished it will make travelling along this path much more pleasant for our students and the local community.

After two weeks leave to start this term we look forward to welcoming back College Principal Vaya Dauphin next week.  I’d like to thank all students, parents and staff for their support for the first two weeks of this term, and wish everyone a safe and happy Term Three.
