Magis report

The Year 7 and 8 Magis option Personal Project display on Wednesday was a great success, with many really outstanding projects.  Congratulations to all participants and warmest thanks to parents for their great support. Special thanks to Ms Bouwman and the teachers who came to the exhibition, plus Mrs Holmes and the library staff for their very valuable assistance, and to Magis captain Ben Linsten and the judging panel members.  Prizes and certificates will be awarded at the Magis Awards Breakfast in Term 4, and top place-getters will be announced in next week’s newsletter. There is a link to the Personal Project catalogue below.

Nomination forms for the Magis Years 7 and 8 camp will be distributed before the holidays. This major Magis event will be held at the beautiful Point Walter campsite, leaving after school on Friday 7 August and returning on Saturday 8 August at about 3:00pm.  The program will include several outstanding guest facilitators including David Castellani from Alpha Motivation and Kathy Boyatzis Director of Opti-MINDSWA and Creative Edge Thinking, plus top current and past senior students.

The Years 7 and 8 section of the Arts and Humanities Challenge was held this week. Loreto had a clear win at Year 8 level ahead of Ward and Koolyangarra, whilst Ward won the Year 7 section just one point ahead of Campion and Koolyangarra.  The individual winner at Year 8 level was Thomas Syminton just ahead of Massimo Torre and Meg Derbyshire.  Poppy Thorpe won the Year 7 section ahead of Marco Zammuto with Josh Tyson and Khyan Mann tying for third.  The Year 9 and 10 section will be completed next Wednesday.

The heats of the John XXIII Public Speaking Competition are now in progress, and the top three at each year level go into the evening  grand final on 28 July.  The standard so far has been very impressive, and we congratulate all competitors. Special thanks to the judges including Ms Kirralee Dawson and the senior Magis committee member for their splendid assistance.  The successful top three from each year group will be announced next week, but house points of course cannot be released until after the finals. A panel of  top Alumni debaters and public speakers will again adjudicate the grand final.
