Strong Home/School Partnership

During these uncertain and ever changing times it’s more important than ever that we work together to ensure we remain safe and healthy. The restrictions to the school site, staggered dismissal times and adjustments to Breakfast Club times will remain in place for the remainder of the term at this stage. We will continue to review these arrangements as we receive updated advice from the Department of Education. Please continue to keep an eye on Compass posts regularly as all updated information will appear on the News Feed.

The most current advice we have states that both staff and students must stay home if they are experiencing any cold or flu like symptoms, get tested and self-isolate until results are known. I would ask all families to take a cautious approach and keep children home if any of these symptoms are present.

We have had a very small number of students arriving at school before 8:15am. Supervision is not provided before this time, so for their safety and wellbeing, please ensure your child is getting to school from 8:15am onwards. Breakfast Club will continue to open at this time until further notice.

2021 Prep Enrolments

Do you have a child starting in Prep next year? If so, please contact our office on 5025 2501 to register your details. Places are filling quickly and we want to ensure all students from our Merbein community have a place at the College for 2021.

  • Unfortunately due to current COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to hold our annual information evening for parents.
  • However, we invite you to contact our Assistant Principal, Rob Morgan, on 50 252501 to register your details. We will then arrange a virtual tour of the school for you and provide you with all the information you will need for your child’s first year of schooling.
  • When COVID restrictions are eased we will also be able to provide you with the details for our Prep Practice sessions in November, which will allow your child to experience the wonderful learning environment we offer at Merbein P-10 College.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Interviews:

Due to COVID-19 and Department of Education restrictions, mid-year Parent/Student and Teacher interviews will still be available, however they will be run a little differently this term. They will be conducted by phone or Webex (video conferencing) starting Monday 27th July from 3.40pm  - 7pm to Thursday 30th July 3.40pm – 7pm. Parents and carers are able to book a 10 min time slot for each teacher they wish to speak to. Teachers will then make contact with you at the time allocated, on the number that we have listed for you on Compass. Primary parents will be encouraged to Webex with their child’s teacher.

Reports:

Parents will be able to view their child’s report on Compass from Friday 31st July. Due to the mix of remote and onsite learning that occurred during the first half of the year, schools will not be completing the normal assessment of student learning against the Victorian Curriculum. As a school, we have decided to complete the 6 week reporting cycle reports and these will be available from Friday 31st of July on Compass. These will be an assessment of your child’s performance for the last 6 weeks of onsite learning in core subjects (the final 3 weeks of term 2 and first 3 weeks in term 3) and the final 3 weeks of onsite learning that occurred prior to the July school holidays for Semester 1 electives.

Filming Throughout the College

Due to the ever changing restrictions related to COVID 19, the school is looking at ways we can share and showcase the many wonderful things that happen at Merbein P-10 College.

In the coming weeks the school will be videoing:

  • students learning in their classroom
  • students playing and interacting out in the yard
  • programs that encourage and develop student voice and leadership
  • student performances that will be used to create a Variety Night Online Production.

When completed, the videos may be shared within the school community, with new families via the school’s various social media platforms or links (restricted access to YouTube) that enable the videos to be viewed and enjoyed.

If you do not want your child/ren to be part of this filming or have any queries, please contact the school (50252501) or email Rob Morgan morgan.robert.b@edumail.vic.gov.au  by Friday 31st July.
