A message from our Principal

Dear Parents,
This week we celebrated our first four weeks of learning with stage gatherings for 15 minutes where Assembly Awards were presented to children. We love the opportunity to celebrate the work our children are doing at school. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to hold our regular assemblies, hence the stage gatherings. Our captains also presented "You've been spotted" awards to one child per stage group. Congratulations to all of the children who received awards this week.

Check-In Assessment Year 3 and Year 5
Year 3 and Year 5 children will participate in a new reading and numeracy check-in assessment in Term 3/4, 2020. The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor Year 3 and Year 5 student learning, following the period of learning from home. The Check-in assessments can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with additional support needs will receive the same level of support during the assessment that they would normally receive in the classroom.
• The assessment will be scheduled for our Yr 5 students from 17 August to 4 September 2020.
• The assessment will be scheduled for our Yr 3 students from 21 September to 23 October 2020.
Crossing the roads around our school - areminder to all parents that children must use the Pedestrian Crossings to cross the roads around our school. Children should not be called across the road to a parked car as this is extremely dangerous. Likewise, parents are also requested not to double park and call children to the car, as again, this is a very dangerous practice. We take the safety of all of our children and families very seriously and staff have been instructed not let children out of the gates of an afternoon until cars are parked legally.
There has been no decision made yet about the application for an additional crossing superviser by the RMS but I will let you know the outcome as soon as I have heard something officially. I have also made the recommendation to the RMS about an additional Pedestrian Crossing on the Lambert/Rankin Street corner. This will be considered and surveys conducted.
Some information from Transport NSW regarding ways to stay safe;
- Children up to eight years old should hold an adult's hand on the footpath, in the car park or when crossing the road.
- Children up to 10 should be supervised around traffic and should hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.
- When walking with your children, talk to them about about safe crossing procedures and traffic safety regulations
- Set a good example. Parents and carers are the best road safety teachers.
- Teach your children to be aware of the traffic environment: distractions such as wearing headphones or playing with friends on the way to or from school can make them more vulnerable to danger.
- Make sure your driving and parking are not endangering your own or others' children. Obey all parking signs and speed limits, and always be on the lookout for the unexpected. Many traffic safety issues around schools arise from the poor driving and parking behaviour of parents.
- Never call your child across the road.
COVID-19 procedures are still in place. These include additional cleaning, hand washing, sanitizing, sneeze and cough protocols and adult social distancing. Everyone is continuing to do this to ensure our school environment remains COVID safe. Please remember there is still no food sharing and students still need water bottles as bubblers are not to be used to drink from.
Please remain vigilant when visiting our school site. A friendly reminder if you are required to attend the front office for an essential purpose, an External Visitors Declaration will need to be completed and visitors must also sign in.
We thank everyone for your co-operation at drop-off and pick-up times. Parents remain unable to come on to the school grounds and are reminded to maintain the 1.5 metre social distancing rule between each other during drop off and pick up times.
Please follow us on Facebook. Please remember that the Facebook page is to celebrate our wonderful school and our student’s achievements. If you have questions in regards to things like bus passes, excursions, uniforms, absences, or any other inquiry, please contact the office on 6331 3923.
If any parent has any queries or requires any clarification on what is occurring at school, please phone us. Please rest assure, that the safety and well-being of all of the children and staff is our absolute priority.
