Cranbourne Campus News

Thank Goodness for our Staff

It is with great pride that I walk around our Campus. This week as I walked around I witnessed passionate teachers working with VCE and VCAL students to ensure that the students have access to the very best instruction and are not disadvantaged by the current scenario. Not only providing meaningful lessons, with purpose but then having to rush from one classroom of senior students to get to another empty room to deliver a Zoom lesson for the junior students. Adapting in a matter of minutes to a totally different mode of delivery. I have witnessed teachers running wellbeing sessions of aromatherapy, mindful colouring, art and Tai Chi for the senior students on Future's day. Conducting informative and interesting subject-based video workshops for students, interviewing students and parents about pathways and subject selection and just sitting chatting with students at lunch checking in that all is OK.

Many of our teachers are also having to juggle their own family contexts and yet doing so in such a way that our St. Peter's College students; your sons and daughters, are not given a second rate opportunity to learn. Teachers firmly focused on our College goals of every teacher becoming an expert teacher and an accelerated rate of growth for every young person in numeracy and literacy. Teachers accepting their role on the 'frontline' to make sure St. Peter's College students can thrive!

And it is not only those in front of the class but all of those wonderful members of our community who are supporting the smooth running of our College in a myriad of ways. The friendly Office staff always smiling and ensuring that students have their temperature checked, that rolls are marked and families informed of absences, staff assisting in Science and Art practical classes, the AV and library team making sure that we offer all the services for those coming in. The maintenance people supporting a clean and well presented environment within which we can work.  I firmly believe that our students are the greatest advertisement of St. Peter's College but equally I am acutely aware that the greatest influence on the success of our young people to grow in mind, body and spirit, rests largely with the dedication and expertise of our St. Peter's College Staff. Making the best of an increasingly complex scenario and doing so with grace and selflessness.

Thank goodness for our staff.

Pursuit of Excellence

During our Campus assembly this week we acknowledged those students who  have excelled in their senior classes so far this year.  These students represent the very tip of the iceberg in VCE and VCAL. Students who have been able to maximise their talents through commitment and dedication, culminating in them each being identified as excelling at this point of the year. Congratulations to Jarred White, Bethany Tai, Costa Zorotheos, Shae Le Gall, Ruby Smith, Sophie Allen and Joey Kariman from VCE and our top student from VCAL Hailey Davidson-Koek. In this group we have a humble crew of hard working and talented students and they know all too well that the race is not yet finished. They know that along with each VCE and VCAL student, there is still time to ‘knuckle down’ to be the best student you can be in the remaining weeks.

Student Leadership

Parents and Guardians of students in Years 10 and 11, we are on the cusp of beginning the student leadership campaign and election process for 2021. St. Peter of the Bible was not a perfect person but he was an authentic and courageous leader upon which the Christian church was founded. In this spirit of 'not being afraid', I invite you to start speaking with the young person in your household about the possibility of putting themselves forward for student leadership, when the time comes. At the very least this is a process that asks each young person to reflect on what they can offer this community and there is the added benefit of teaching the candidates so much about how to present oneself. A skill that will become essential for future employment opportunities.
