Clyde North Campus News

Week Three Already

Week three already, and we have settled into our new normal, a school that operates through remote and face to face learning. Whilst our classrooms and campus look somewhat different, what has not changed is our sense of community. This newsletter, I have themed…Let us…, that no matter what circumstances arise we as a community maintain a determined, purposeful and innovative attitude in all challenges, tasks and our daily lives, so let us….

Let us lead in excellence

We enjoyed our first Campus Assembly this week, ably led by our College Captains. Celebrating excellence was the theme and our VCE and VCAL students were presented with their awards from College Principal Mr Black. We also got to experience the creative excellence of the VET students through their exciting visual representations of musical performances. Whilst we would have preferred to be onsite and in person watching the assembly, the fine leadership of our captains and VET music students provided an entertaining and inspiring assembly. The VET music students excelled in their performances exciting viewers with an array of what appeared to be technical & musical wizardry.

Our College Captains, Sophie and Jaden interviewed two junior students Xavier (Yr 7) and Piper (Yr 8) on what they thought excellence was and what they were looking forward to when they become senior students. The interviews with Piper and Xavier remind us of the need to remain hopeful with positive anticipation of the future even if it does bring final assessments in VET, VCAL and VCE examinations. Let our journey toward the future be a path that is full of hope, good wishes and nervous excitement.

Let us embrace the ROCKS of St Peters

During the assembly we also celebrated Isabella Duiker’s winning poster entry in the ROCKS competition held in late Term 2. Isabella will now work with Mr. Calen Robinson (WSAPBS team member/Technology Teaching & Learning Coach) on the printing of the final product. Her visual representation of the ROCKS along with the winning entries from the Cranbourne campus remind us to:

Respect - how to be respectful.

Organisation - how to be organised.

Collaboration - how to be collaborative.

Kindness - how to be kind.

Safety - how to be safe.

Our community exemplifies the gospel values of love, forgiveness, justice and truth. We recognise that everyone has the right to be respected, to feel safe and be safe and, in turn, our school community acknowledges each member's own obligation to behave positively.

Let us eat cake and other wonderful foods

I want to thank the year 10 VCAL students who provided the staff with a delicious array of culinary delights during the Futures Day. The students demonstrated great planning, organisation and execution of this venture. There skills were put to the test as they had to cater for a large group with a varied and complex menu. The brownies were, for me an absolute stand out and I may have eaten more than was wise. It is through such projects that our students gain real life experience in professional operations such as catering. They certainly rose to the challenge taking great care, responsibility and pride for this highly successful project.

Let us wear masks!

With the introduction of the mandatory mask policy earlier this week, some of our talented staff during their own time, have been using the textiles room to create reusable, environmentally friendly masks in a range of stylish colours and patterns! The staff estimate that over 70 masks have been made over the week.

The initiative is raising money for the Bishop Eppalle School in the Solomon Islands, with a donation of $5-$10 per mask being given. So far, over $300 has been raised and our staff are looking fantastic!

A big thank you to our Mask Makers, Ms Van Rens, Ms Williams, Ms Hyland, and Ms Caldwell.

Let us be brave

Last week I finished with a lovely email from year 8 student Saoirse O’Riordan. He was about to have his head shaved for a great cause. Hot off the press from Sunday’s shave is this update from Saoirse. He certainly tapped into his character strengths of Courage, Humanity, and Zest raising so far the fantastic amount of $6,087.06. Well done Saoirse, your journey and determination are an inspiration to all of us, and right when we need lots of good news stories. Congratulations. Please enjoy Saoirse’s journey through the following photographs.

Masks Off and Morning Tea In!

On Tuesday, 21 July 2020 the year 10 VCAL class created and prepared Morning Tea for the teachers and community of St. Peter’s College.  This year was slightly different to previous years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a class, we had to ensure that strict PPE measures were adhered to, when planning and preparing the food. Gloves, masks and hand sanitiser were a must prior to commencing any food preparation.

We had plans to cook all of the food and display it on a platter to serve the staff, however, we had to rethink our approach to service. As a class we sent out a Google Survey to all staff and took note of individual orders as the surveys rolled in. This was actually a great innovation for us, as the food was cooked according to the requested orders. Each order was then bagged up and distributed to the Staff Room, where staff members collected their orders, maintaining social distancing rules and the least amount of contact possible. Staff enjoyed the 2020 VCAL menu, which included, Brownies, sausage rolls, candy spuds, cheese & bacon scrolls, Pizza Scrolls, Chicken and Cheese Quesadillas in and make a certain amount of food for the people who ordered.

It was a tough, yet fun experience collaborating with students and staff.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
