Subject Selection

What do I want to be when I grow up? Which subjects should I select? What are the prerequisites for my course? Have I done my career profiling?

These are just some of the questions the House Leaders and Curriculum Team were asked by Year 9 and 10 students during our Future’s Day on Tuesday, 21 July 2020, which flowed into subject selection interviews. It is challenging for our young students to already have their career mapped out before they begin their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) pathway, however, these choices are very important as they will help to shape their learning journey ahead. This may shift and change over the next two to three years of their academic journey based on their experiences or change of mind in career, which is perfectly understandable, particularly given the jobs our young people will most likely enter into don’t exist yet. Therefore, the importance of seeking advice, asking the right questions and challenging their thinking surrounding the choices they make is more important now than ever! Please make sure, as parents and guardians of our future generation, that you are engaging in these types of conversations with your children and reassuring them there is guidance throughout the process. It is advised that they should choose subjects which suit their academic ability and interests, and most importantly, always strive to achieve their best.

Finally, to complete the subject selection process, please assist your child to log on to Web-Preferences via the email sent to their St. Peter’s College email account and complete their subject choices. The receipt from Web-Preferences needs to be emailed to your child’s Learning Advisor and you as a parent/guardian need to complete the Care Monkey form acknowledging you have discussed their subjects and you agree to the choices being made. If you feel as though you, as a parent or guardian, are unsure about the advice to give your child, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with Robyn Cardamone (Clyde North Career’s/VET Co-ordinator) or Melissa Dillon (Cranbourne Campus Career’s/VET Co-ordinator) or a member of the Curriculum Team at your child’s respective campus. Subject selection for 2021 needs to be finalised as outlined above by Monday, 3 August 2020 at 3.20 pm.

St. Peter’s College would like to extend our gratitude to the House Leaders, Curriculum Team, Careers/ VET team, Coaches, teaching staff, students and parents for their invaluable support in this process. We are all in this journey together and want to make the experience as enjoyable and seamless as possible.
