From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Hope

This week we conducted our regular school assembly. It takes on a very different look when it is required to be conducted as a virtual presentation. The assembly was located on our YouTube channel, this enabled us to connect in with those students and staff working remotely as well as those who are working on-site. The theme of my presentation to the school community was on hope. Here is a snippet of my theme around hope:

Hope is the essence of life. Hope finds itself deep inside our heart. Life is unpredictable and sometimes it can spiral out of our control. Hope helps us keep fighting on. It improves the chances of making our own lives better. Hope – the essence of life keeps our eyes wide open for an improved future. I know it’s very hard having a positive mindset during the most critical times, especially now, but, those who never lose hope, are those that make it.

So…what does hope look like?

Hope says tomorrow is going to be better than today

Hope is the positive message you send to another

Hope is the smile you put on someone else’s face

Hope is looking at things in a positive light

Hope is about recognising with gratitude what I have today and what I will look forward to tomorrow

Hope can and is to be found in a community such as ours.

I have been inspired by both staff and students as they continue to adapt to the circumstances which currently confront them. Students have been agile in moving from different modes of learning. Students have accepted the new protocols around mask-wearing and daily temperature checks with maturity and a no nonsense approach. Students continue to engage in their learning. I congratulate our students and ask that you all continue to be hope-filled in your approach to your learning and the way you live out each day

Pursuit of Excellence

Part of our assembly this week was to acknowledge our high achieving Yr 12 students on both campuses. The pursuit of excellence has a long history at St. Peter’s College. Students achieving this award are acknowledged by way of their names being etched onto the Pursuit of Excellence Honour board. This serves as encouragement for these students to continue their fine work and for those that “missed the cut” and motivation to work even harder to get the most out of themselves. For the younger year levels it provides a goal to strive towards. The criteria for successful nomination for VCE students is: an average of 80% in English plus their best 3 Unit 3 results.

The criteria for successful nomination for the VCAL Pursuit of Excellence was:  select a student who is completing work at an exemplary standard across all VCAL subject areas and VET courses. This student works in an autonomous manner and demonstrates well developed skills of leadership, teamwork, communication and organisation within their project work. Attendance is above 80%.

Congratulations to our recipients of the 2020 Pursuit of Excellence awards:

Lights, Cameras, Action

One of the major challenges of remote learning is the feeling of connection and engagement between staff and students in their learning. In Remote Schooling 2.0 we have laid down the expectation that students should have their cameras on whilst Zoom classes are being conducted. Whilst there are always a few exceptions to the rule, I ask parents to discuss with their child/ren the importance of cameras being switched on and where possible I ask parents to monitor student’s adherence to this request. Engagement in learning is our number one priority in this remote space and your support would be greatly appreciated.

Stage 6A – Food/Hospitality/Music/Drama/Dance – Clyde Nth Campus

This building will be open when students return from Remote Schooling. The final touches are currently being applied to what is going to be a very exciting and dynamic space for student learning in the area of technology and the performing arts. Enjoy below some of the images taken of the facility this week.

Have a good week and stay well
