Remote Learning Commences

20/07/2020 Metropolitan schools & Mitchell Shire - Remote Learning.

I can confirm we will be going into remote learning commences next week. We understand this will be with us until 19/08/2020, but this is only a guide, not an absolute. We ask all families to please familiarise yourselves with our latest updated Remote Strategy document- there have been changes since the first document was published.

Registering for Remote Learning On-site Supervision

We will be providing on site supervision for families who are unable to work from home. We understand that this is a very open definition and of course we will accept parents who need this service. But we do ask parents to consider the implications of having people move around, and having students at school.  We are in the Stage three lockdown for health reasons and we need to minimise interaction at all levels.

For those who require the service there is an on-line form available on the school's website. The same conditions apply if your child presents with a temperature or cold like symptoms you will be required to collect them from school or not send them until they have been cleared by a doctor.

Changes to registering for this service

  • The form will need to be completed each week.
  • The form is open on Friday and closes on Sunday (midnight).
  • If you need to change your days after the form has been submitted you will need to email the school your changes. Telephone changes will not be accepted.

Parent/Teacher Interviews - Thursday 30/07/2020

As we return to Stage Two Lock Down conditions, we need to review how we complete our obligations to inform parents about their child's progress. We will be implementing online interviews.

The following steps outline our process to implement our remote mid-year parent/teacher interviews;

  • Currently bookings are live for parents to nominate an interview time
  • This booking will close - MONDAY 27/07/2020 (midnight)
  • Parents will be sent an invite to join through their personal email - Wednesday 29/07/2020
  • Please accept invitation when you receive the email.
  • Join the meeting 5 minutes before allocated time.
  • Parent/Teacher Interviews will be from 12pm - 7.00pm Thursday 30/07/2020
  • If you have a concern please contact your child's teacher through Sentral.

Temperature checks

Daily temperature checks will be enforced. If a child presents with a temperature of 37.5 or above, parents or carers will be requested to collect the child immediately. To reduced confusion and congestion please arrive at school by 8.50 for a 9.00 am. start.

Parents MUST wait until the child's temperature has been read and the child is cleared to enter the classroom.

Drop off and Pick-up

We will continue to operate our current procedures of having children assemble all on the basketball court. Likewise this will also be the procedure at the end of the day. We need to remind parents that children can not be left unattended.

Late arrivals

If a child is late they still need to accompanied by a parent and have a temperature check before they can enter the classroom. If you arrive after 9.00am you may find the gate closed and will need to ring the school to advise us you are on-site. If you expect to be late then please ring ahead so we can make the relevant arrangements for you to enter the school grounds.

Health monitoring

As with the temperature we ask parents of children who will be attending school as remote learners will be monitoring their health. We ask if your child shows any signs of illness no matter how minor please keep your child at home.

Recent Communications - Sentral

We have received some feedback from families that we have been sending out too many notifications. While this may have been a little inconvenient to some, we felt it was important to impart up to date information this week. Now we have settled into this new stage, our communication to the community will be reduced significantly. From this point on wards most communication with families will be through other platforms - Seesaw and Teams.

Future Newsletters

As we start our term three journey we need to rethink how and what our newsletter reports to our community. We will continue to report weekly and will continue to report DET updates. Other aspects of school life will reported  to the community so we can maintain community connection.

Calendar

The calendar items have been updated to reflect our restrictions. A number of items have been tagged with the initials TBC - To Be Confirmed. We have left those items on the calendar until we are directed that we can celebrate in person. If it looks like we can not then we will consider other options to celebrate these important activities.
