Teachers spent Monday as LEARNERS... developing their knowledge in Mathematics.

Over the course of the next three years, our teachers and support staff will be learning how to deliver, plan and engage our students within their Mathematics Learning. We welcome “The Great Mathematics Sequence’’ into St Joseph’s… it aims to enhance and engage our students' learning in Mathematics and enrich their language in Mathematical thinking.

Thank you to Mrs Trish Mitchell from the Catholic Schools Office and Mrs Pauline Long for delivering the first part of the Great Mathematics Sequence.

                                                                 Mathematics is FUN!!!

Try this activity with your children!

We begin with THE HOOK- Draw our students in- get them thinking about what we might be learning...

                                                            Activate Prior Knowledge

What do you think our learning focus is?

As parents, I bet you have held a birthday party and needed to cut a cake for 10 or more children… ‘How do we cut this cake for 10 children, evenly?’

Or is your child the one who waits patiently till the end for a piece of cake which turns out to be the crummiest little bit…what a let down for being polite.

Together with your child,  have a go, design a plate to divide and cut the cake equally for 10 children. Now you’ll never end up with the crummiest little bit and as a parent, you’ll never fret about cutting a cake evenly again!

This is just one activity we can use to HOOK our students into learning about FRACTIONS… This is one way to see what our students know prior to beginning our learning direction.
