Ourschool Alumni Program

As term two came to a close, approximately 300 MGC students were joined, via Microsoft Teams, by three alumnae with some forthright lessons regarding planning for the transition from MGC to “the real world.”
Most recent graduate, Isabelle Carney explained the process of changing courses and accepting the fact that sometimes what you think is the right post MGC pathway might not be the case. The candid account of her first year at Uni eased the minds of many students who thought they had to have their entire futured mapped out before leaving MGC.
Phoebe Rahn addressed the importance of balance in life while acknowledging the demands of law school, volunteering and the university schedule in general. She stressed the value of maintaining friendships forged at MGC.
Marielle Stratikopoulos explained the different careers science degrees can lead to with considerations for salary levels, availability of jobs and job satisfaction, as well as the importance of choosing an employer with similar ideals to one’s own.
Students asked pertinent questions specific to the alumnae’s pathways as well as regarding general topics such as ATAR scores, course choice, the importance of extra-curricular activities and volunteering.
When alumni return to the school, in person or virtually, to share their career pathways with current students, they become a relatable resource having recently walked the same halls at MGC.
If you are or know an alum who would like to share her post-MGC pathway with the alumni coordinator, email alumni@mgc.vic.edu.au
Melbourne Girls’ College joined the Ourschool Alumni Program Foundation Service beginning this school year. Ourschool is a not for profit service dedicated to helping public high schools establish and build their alumni networks to benefit students and strengthen public school communities. With the term two switch to remote learning, the focus of our alumni connections moved from in person sessions to virtual career pathway and other class specific events.
