From the Acting Principal

Recently we received preliminary plans for our new STEM Centre. The Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) have appointed a Project Management Company SENSUM to oversee our project. The allocated 4.513 million includes the new STEM Centre and incorporates the upgrade of our school oval.

The D-wing will be demolished over the summer holidays and will be ready for completion in the new year.  The new building is modular based and will be constructed off site and simply ‘put together’ when delivered.  It is anticipated that the new facilities will be available before the end of Term 2, 2020.

We recently met with our Local State Member for Niddrie, Ben Carroll to thank him personally for the funds allocated to our College. No doubt, our school community and families look forward to enjoying the new state of the art facilities for many years to come.

Parent teacher night was well attended - a great opportunity to once again meet with your child's teachers and discuss their progress and opportunities for improvement.  For our Year 12 students this was their final official parent teacher meeting.  Parents were encouraged to come along and discuss how they could maximise their time to ensure a strong finish to the year. With the completion of final SAC’s and assessment tasks, most students will now turn their attention to exam preparation. Compulsory trial exams will be running during the term three break, please check the calendar.

The coming weeks are a critical study time, so I encourage parents and guardians to provide some quiet space at home for your Year 12 student.  Plenty of sleep, healthy eating and some regular exercise should be incorporated into the study program in the lead up to and during final exams. Effort and commitment  are key to being the best you can be now and into the future.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the work of Mr Stubbings our Student Engagement Leader who recently organised a student voice staff meeting. Essentially, fifteen student leaders attended, participated and contributed to the meeting. They shared their ideas and experiences on what makes a successful and ideal lesson. It was impressive watching these young leaders contribute and confidently engage in educational discussions with their teachers. It is truly an educational community when key stakeholders can contribute, listen and value the contribution of many and varied viewpoints. It was very pleasing seeing staff and students working together as learners.

I wish all students, staff and families a safe and relaxing term break. We look forward to daylight savings and the opportunity to come back next term refreshed and ready to finish the year on a positive.
