School Council

The school council held their general meeting Monday night, June 17.

Our sub-committees did not meet prior to this meeting with the following discussed at the general meeting:

- School Café:  For the eventual change in the Friday school lunches, we are still in the planning stage with the aim to make it a gradual change. As for the Café itself, we are still awaiting registration and certification for our kitchen. We will be sure to keep everyone informed as we approach these milestones.

- Parents and Friends Association:  The PFA have been quite busy since our last meeting having run the election day BBQ, Mothers Day Stall as well as the pie drive (don't forget to get your orders in!) as well as distributing money into some other projects such as I-Pad docking stations.

- Junior School Council:  The JSC have undertaken some huge projects including the selling of the food containers and cookbooks on a Friday afternoon, running the recent silent auction, organising school-wide PJ day as well as next Friday's Walk to School Day. A really awesome effort by our JSC!

- Sentral:  Parents should be able to log into the new platform from Wednesday, June 19. Sentral will be more of a one-stop shop which will take over from up to four other apps.

- Thankyou:  A massive thankyou to Rick who stepped in as acting Principal during Dale and Kylie’s trip to Canada and also to the other staff members who stepped up during this time as well!

Please see below, the ‘new’ communication overview, to hopefully make your life easier in communicating with us.

Secondary School Zone Rule Change

Secondary School Zone Rule Change

As many of you would be aware, and I now have confirmation, the ‘Sibling’ component of the zoning changes has been amended for 2020.

This is great news for many of our community families who already have older siblings of current Year 6 students attending government secondary school settings.

It means schools such as Ballarat High School are now able to accept students from our current Year 6 into Year 7 in 2020, should they already have an older sibling attending.

Miners Rest Primary School Parent drop-in Café, coming soon

We can’t wait to welcome our school community into our new Café, offering barista coffees and eventually locally produced, seasonal foods.

This will not replace our canteen, offered Friday’s, but will eventually enhance what is already offered – stay tuned for more information throughout the remainder of the year.

We are running a competition for any community member of any age to enter.

Name our Café!  Pick up entry forms from the Office or Mrs Cosgriff at school.  Hurry, entries close next Thursday 27 June.

You could be part of our history in naming our café that will enhance our connectedness to our families and students.

The winner of the naming café competition will also receive a month of free coffees from our café when it opens next term.
