New Staff 2017

Introducing the new staff...

As you look around the School in the first week back,there are many new faces - some belonging to students, and others to new staff members.

 

We are very privileged to add some new staff to our BHCS Community and would like to warmly welcome them all. In no particular order, here are our new staff for 2017.

Paul Scott

What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I am teaching Maths and Science across Years 7 to 11. I am excited about working in the great team of staff here and getting to know each of the students in class and on camps.

 

What did you do previously?

I studied Electrical Engineering and worked at Youth for Christ in Darwin for a year, facilitating in the Redirecting Adolescent Potential Program. More recently, I have been teaching Maths, Science and Physics for the last 11 years.

 

What you do for fun?

I love to get outdoors, preferably to the surf, but mountains are good too. I really love when my wife Bekkii and my girls Abi and Hannah join me for adventures.

 

Daniel Dema

What are you teaching/excited about this year?

I will be teaching French in Years 9 to 12 as well as some of the little ones in Year 3/4. I am very excited about getting to know the students and I am certain that we will enjoy working together.

 

What did you do previously?

I arrived here in Australia only four months ago. Until then I was a French teacher in my home country, Romania. I taught French for seven years in Romania, so you can imagine that teaching in Australia is a big change for me.

 

What do you do for fun?

I am very passionate about football (or soccer as you call it here), but my time is often monopolised by my four year old son Ayden. We like to go out with our friends and family and visit some of the beautiful places in the area.

 

Georgina Beach

What you are teaching/excited about this year?

This year I am excited to meet all of my new students and become a part of the culture at BHCS. I am a Year 7 Homegroup teacher and I will be teaching PE, Sport, Science, English and SOSE.

 

What did you do previously?

I previously taught at Kerang Christian College for two years. Prior to that I worked in retail at Country Road.

 

What you do for fun?

I love playing any sport and take any opportunity to be outside in the sunshine and fresh air. 

 

Laurita Humbert

What are you teaching/excited about this year?

This year I am excited to be the Canteen Manager for BHCS. I am looking forward to meeting new people and being part of such a great school and staff team.

 

What did you do previously?

I have been at home with my kids the past 13 years. I run the children's program at my church and also do the books for my husband's electrical business. Prior to starting my family, I worked in childcare and also the food service industry.

 

What do you do for fun?

I love the beach and exploring new places. I enjoy bodyboarding, kayaking, fishing and camping. I also love basketball.

 

Tom Denham

What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I am working as  Learning Assistant in Year 9 this year. I am excited about seeing the senior school students learn and grow.

 

What did you do previously?

Previously I studied Education Support and Visual Arts at Holmesglen and RMIT.

 

What you do for fun?

For fun I love acting, writing, arts. I work at Puffing Billy, and I also volunteer on CYC Camps.

 

Mel Pors

What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I am the new School Chaplain working alongside the  wacky Nick Crawley. I am excited to start a new adventure and spending time and getting to know all the teachers and kids. Going to be heaps of FUN!

 

What did you do previously?

I worked at Birmingham Primary school for nearly 10 years as a School Chaplain, and continue to work at Discovery Church as a Kids and Family Pastor.

 

What you do for fun?

I LOVE spending time having coffee and cake with friends, riding with my husband on his motorbike, love reading, going out for breakfast and going to the beach. Bring on the fun!!!

Georgie Armstrong

What are you teaching/excited about this year?

I'll be teaching Food Technology from Years 5 to 8, as well as VCE Health and Human Development. I will also be taking sport and Year 10 PE. I am very much looking forward to our journey together and I am so excited to be working in an environment where our faith in God is central. 

 

What did you do previously?

I have previously taught in England and made my adventures overseas 20 years ago! I have spent the past 16 years at a school in Berwick where I was fortunate to teach similar subjects and held the positon of Year 9 Co-ordinator and Head of Lifeskills.

 

What you do for fun?

I love learning and growing as well as being a parent to my two beautiful boys who amuse me everyday.

 

Jemma Romp

What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I am excited about re-joining a fun/tight-knit team and help to make a difference within the school I loved so much as a student. This year I will be working a few days a week as a Receptionist.

 

What did you do previously?

I used to work at Waterman Business Centres & SkinB5 but am now working at BHCS and Kikki.K.

 

What you do for fun?

I love to plan and go on adventures!

 

Duncan Boyle

What you are teaching/excited about this year?

This year I will be a Learning Assistant in Year 8 with Ben White. I am excited about being in the classroom and moving through a bunch of electives with the students. 

 

What did you do previously?

At the end of 2016, I completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Literature and Philosophy, whilst doing some tutoring for work. 

 

What you do for fun?

I'm enthusiastically involved in my church, primarily working with the Youth and Young Adults. I get a lot of enjoyment out of that. To relax, I like to engage with stories through mediums like film and books. I am also a big Chicago Blackhawks fan.
