Things you need to know (2 of 2)

Car Parking

Due to the current growth of the school and the increase in cars in the carpark, it is imperative that parents do not wait for extended periods of time within the designated one minute parking areas. Families who do so may be asked to move.

It is also important that you do not exit your vehicles in the one minute zones. If you need to do so, please find a carpark in the designated parking areas.

To assist with afternoon streamlining, we encourage the following pick up routine:

  • Kinder: 3pm-3.15pm
  • Primary Only: 3.20pm-3.35pm
  • Secondary Only: 3.40pm onwards

This will help in alleviating some of our current carpark congestion.

Fire Track

The school would like to advise families that parking or pick up along any area of the fire track that runs through the school grounds is prohibited. The fire track exists to ensure emergency vehicles have access if needed, and for staff to get to staff parking areas before and after school. To ensure the safety of students in the school grounds, we therefore kindly request that families refrain from using this track.

Bushfire Management Plan

Many families will be wondering what procedures we have in place in case of emergency during the warmer season.

Attached is a letter from our Principal regarding Bushfires and Disaster Management.

BHCS is also on the BARR (Bushfire At-Risk Register). This means the School is required to follow a certain set of guidelines during extreme fire days. An article by Independent Schools Victoria gives more insight on this and can be read by clicking on the link below

Lockers, Padlocks and Valuables

We remind all Secondary families that all students should have a padlock for their locker. This is to ensure the contents of the locker remain safe and are only accessible by your child. We encourage the use of combination padlocks to avoid instances of lost or forgotten keys.

It is important to remember that no valuables should be stored in lockers overnight, this includes items such as specialised calculators, laptops, money or other items of value.

Uniform Change

All students should now be wearing the new uniform as of the beginning of this year. There are still however, a number of students who haven't updated their uniform. We understand that there may be legitimate reasons for not having some parts of the uniform at this stage, and in these cases, a note from home explaining this needs to be provided.

In Middle & Senior School students do need to purchase the school socks for both the formal uniform and the PE uniform. To clarify this:

  • Boys Formal Uniform - Grey BHCS socks, not black
  • Girls Formal Uniform - White socks with Green & Black stripes, not plain white
  • PE Uniform - White BHCS socks

Please update your child's uniform at your earliest convenience.

Hats

A reminder that hats are a compulsory part of the school’s uniforms during Terms 1 & 4.

Medical Forms

Medical Forms were sent home to all families in Term 4 of 2016 and should have already been returned. (This includes completed forms, action plans, medication registers and doctors' letters.) If you have not yet returned these, please do so WITHOUT DELAY or your child may be excluded from participating in upcoming excursions. If you are a new family to the school and do not appear to have received a form for your child, please contact Reception and someone will organise for one to be given to you.

Canteen

The School Canteen operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week. They are currently using their Spring/Summer menu, a copy of which is attached. It can also be found on the School’s website.

Don't forget that Canteen Online Ordering is also available through FlexiSchools. Payments can be processed online via Visa Card, Mastercard or Bank Transfer. This means less paper bags, cash, envelopes, etc. at school.

Ordering online is simple. Head to www.flexischools.com.au and click "Register". Once you register your email address, you will be sent further instructions via email.

Please ensure that you read and are aware of all the Terms and Conditions when you register.

Canteen Volunteers

If you have a few hours free once a month, we'd love you to join our team of volunteers. We have a few 2 1/2 to 3 hour shifts available on Wednesdays and Fridays. Helping in the canteen is a great way to invest in the School Community and also a good way to meet other parents and students. Training is provided and no special skills are needed. You will also be given a $5 canteen voucher for up to two of your children who attend BHCS as a thank you for your help and support each time you volunteer. If you're interested, please call me on  0403 955 177 on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Discovery Centre Opening Hours

The DC is open before school from 8.30am and after school until 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and until 4pm on Fridays. The DC is to be used for Secondary aged students to study and for Primary aged students who are accompanied by a parent or guardian. We strongly encourage parents to come into the DC with their Primary aged children and make use of the great facilities we have to offer.

Please be aware that  any Junior Primary students who have not been collected by 3.45pm will be taken to the AfterSchool Care Service which will be held in the M Block. It will then be necessary for parents to collect their child or children from the service. Charges may apply.
