Founder's Day Assembly

Last Friday, we celebrated a historic new milestone in the life of our School – our Schools 35th Anniversary.  In front of our whole student body [ excluding ELC ], we thanked all of those past and present Governors, staff, students and friends, for their contribution to the development of our unique and very special School.  I had the opportunity to link our 2018 School Theme ”Be all you can be” to the many people who have assisted our Schools development over the past 35 years.

Our guest of honour was the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency, The Honourable Linda Dessau AC & Mr Anthony Howard QC.  Other distinguished guest who were attendance were:

His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis

Mr Dimitrios Michalopoulos, Consul General of Greece

Presvytera Moutafis

Vice President of the Greek Orthodox Community & Districts and Chair of the Committee of Management Mr Chris Damatopoulos

The Honourable Kelly O’Dwyer, Federal Minister for Higgins

The Honourable Clare O’Neil, Federal Minister for Hotham

The Honourable David Davis, Shadow Minister for Public Transport, Planning & Equality

State Member for Oakleigh, Mr Steve Dimopoulos

City of Monash Councillor, Mr Robert Davies

Victorian Multicultural Commissioner, Mr Sam Almaliki

our Board, Clergy, Political Leaders and Greek community groups were all acknowledged as playing a significant role in supporting the development of our School.

The memento reflecting our 35th Anniversary celebration, was the painting of a jigsaw puzzle, which was proudly standing at the front of the assembly hall.

The Painting tells the story of the 35 year journey of Oakleigh Grammar and the dreams and hopes of Father Nicholas Moutafis, who was a charismatic community leader who dedicated his life towards inspiring others to become the best they could be, by creating strong connections in the community and the church.

Father Nicholas encapsulated the true meaning of living life in a positive, gentle and honest manner. He was a great supporter of continuous improvement and learning. Father Nicholas left a legacy of love, kindness and patience, and his spirit is still inspiring us every day- to live a positive life, guided by our faith, and ultimately the goal which is achievable of the getting of wisdom through life’s experiences and learning.

Gala Ball                                                                                     A fantastic celebration was had by all who attended our Ball at Vogue Ballroom last Saturday night.   The entertainment was superb and included a variety of songs and dances of differing genres throughout the evening.  A huge thank you to our Parents Association, and in particular our Co-Presidents , Mrs Helen Bauzon and Mr Robert  Keoylian for their dedication and hard work, both in the planning stages and on the night.
